Ignore the previous posting Your gearing 7 rear sprockets and up to three on the front chain rings? It doesn't matter! Just go out and ride every where you can... Larger ring in the back the lower the gear for climbing hills also the smaller gear in front chain ring. Smallest sprocket in the rear and largest chain ring in front for speed on level ground or down hill. Gear in inches of forward of travel mark with chalk bottom of the wheel one turn of the crank pedal to how many turns of the rear wheel measure the distance. Make a chart and see. HOW THE TRANSMISSION WORKS. Humans work best between 60 and 80 rpms and 70 or to 100 inches foward travel per revoluiton road bike in the dirt it is a whole other story.

A 7-speed mtb?

Granny gear for hills, high gear for flats.

Dude, your bike sucks. 7 speed? What is that like 15 years old? Just ride. You'll figure it out.
