Yes it bugs me too, especially when you see misspellings in a business or on an advertisement. I think they are lazy too and the more they get away with it the more they will do it. I'm glad I'm not the only one in the world that (mis)spelling bothers :) *although I do like the sideways smileys:)

Rap and pop and computerese have influenced society and, I feel, had a deleterious affect on the language. "-l8ter" could work if it wasn't done so addictively, and we didn't harbor the suspicion that they can't spell and don't know grammar. Ever ask "are you going to the concert/game/movie?" and the person answers "hopefully!" This does not express what they mean. Worse, are common phrases such as "I could care less!" when they mean "I couldn't care less!' and "I hope I can go to the game!" But we have decided than ANYTHING goes and it is sad, sad when we lose both the ability to verbally express our true thoughts...just as we seem to be losing the ability to dance to anything but a mechanical metronome, engage with others at a deeper than skin level without getting stoned, or filtered through sterile devices like computers, as I'm doing now, our through the antiseptic of nervous laughter.

You are not alone girl. I for one do not like it. However, we have to take into consideration the effects of technology. I will not say it's all on laziness. I also blame it on technology. Who gave us mobile phones and computers and video games? Well, that's it. Parents and teachers should always be watchful.
