I actually just had mine removed a week ago. I only had three wisdom teeth, two on the bottom, one on the top. You can't eat anything 12 hours before surgery, and i was put to sleep with general anesthesia (I imagine this is standard), and then had novacaine shots in my mouth. I was in a decent amount of pain for several days. It is still very difficult to eat, since I can't open my mouth the whole way. For at least a week after surgery, plan on smashing up your food and eating lots of soup and ice-cream. You will probably have a follow-up appointment a couple weeks after your surgery. I'm not going to lie, though...the day after I had mine taken out, I cried it hurt so much. My suggestion is to have lots of ice packs ready and try to sleep as much as you can the first few days. It's not fun, but you'll survive.

My son had his wisdom teeth out last summer. They had to be cut out, instead of being pulled. He was asleep the entire 20 min. it took to do the oral surgery. He was sore for about 1 day and had to eat soft foods. After that he was back to his regular schedule and friends. Everyone is different. some of his friends have been sore a little longer, but you will be sent home with pain medication so it's really nothing to worry about. One more thing, when you leave the oral surgeon/dentist office your mouth will be packed with gauze. The gauze will appear to be very bloody. It's not really, it's mainly blood tinged saliva on the gauze. Keeping the gauze packed around the incision will also help with the discomfort you might feel after the teeth are removed.

The actual removal was easy...I was put out completely while they pulled all four wisdom teeth. It was my first major puchase of my married life. About a week after having them pulled (14 years ago) I got dry socket and was in pretty bad shape. One of the incisions on the bottom pulled open and bone was exposed. It took a couple of weeks to heal good enough for me to eat solid food. For about a year after the surgery, I had to rinse my mouth out with water after eating because food got caught in the little "pockets". If you need to get all four out, I would recommend doing them all at once. There is no way I would go back for a second round! I'm not trying to scare you...I just wanted to let you know what I went through.
Good Luck!

It really depends on your teeth; how many, top or bottom, impacted or not, how far have they grown out? I had mine out a couple days ago. I had only two and they were fully grown out but extremely crooked. I was knocked out, didn't feel a thing during or after. I had no swelling, little bleeding, no stitches. I had pain medicine but it made me feel sick so I stopped taking it after the first day. The worst pain I had was yesterday and it just felt like a canker sore when I smiled. It was a piece of cake!

I had my 4 teeth removed at once. I was not put out at all. The doctor gave me so-called "laughing" gas(it has medical term for it but I don't remember). I didn't need somebody to drive me. It wasn't bad at all. It was a little bit of pain when it was heeling. But it's tolerable.

Mine are out. It was horrible. Got dry socket (ask your dentist). After a few years I still had chunks of broken tooth way back there. Good luck. Some people don't have any problems though.

Yes, I have. Very painful afterwards. I had the four of them extracted at once. My face doubled in size the day after.

I had mine removed in the dentist chair....mine were impacted, so it took quite a bit to get them out...the dentist and his nurse both had blood on their glasses. My jaw looked liked it swelled up to twice the normal size by the next day.
