I am not a sword drill chapter and verse Christian but I will share how i face fear as a friend of God and Christ.

I trust God. If harm is to come to me, God has promised to make it work for the greater good. Christ says trials, hardship and persecution will come to those who believe but take heart because Christ/God/Spirit is there with you and will see you through the storm. I fear heights.

I will however climb a ladder and fix stuff. I hate every minute of it but the work must be done and I know God will protect me even if I fall.

When you are in trouble, or there is an emergency, what do you dial? 911. Working on the same principle, go start reading the Bible at Psalms 91:1, and read the whole chapter. God bless!

Here is that Psalm in the "Message" translations. You can also read it in traditional translations if you prefer.

Psalm 91 (The Message)
1-13You who sit down in the High God's presence, spend the night in Shaddai's shadow,
Say this: "God, you're my refuge.
I trust in you and I'm safe!"
That's right—he rescues you from hidden traps,
shields you from deadly hazards.
His huge outstretched arms protect you—
under them you're perfectly safe;
his arms fend off all harm.
Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night,
not flying arrows in the day,
Not disease that prowls through the darkness,
not disaster that erupts at high noon.
Even though others succumb all around,
drop like flies right and left,
no harm will even graze you.
You'll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance,
watch the wicked turn into corpses.
Yes, because God's your refuge,
the High God your very own home,
Evil can't get close to you,
harm can't get through the door.
He ordered his angels
to guard you wherever you go.
If you stumble, they'll catch you;
their job is to keep you from falling.
You'll walk unharmed among lions and snakes,
and kick young lions and serpents from the path.

14-16 "If you'll hold on to me for dear life," says God,
"I'll get you out of any trouble.
I'll give you the best of care
if you'll only get to know and trust me.
Call me and I'll answer, be at your side in bad times;
I'll rescue you, then throw you a party.
I'll give you a long life,
give you a long drink of salvation!"

Psalm 91 (New International Version)

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."

3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,

6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-

10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;

12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."

I love this scripture about conquering fear ...(not of God, but of man);

1John 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love throws fear outside, because fear exercises a restraint. Indeed, he that is under fear has not been made perfect in love.

For example, David facing Goliath, his total love of and trust in God, canceled out any fear of the giant.

Why would you want to get rid of something that is designed to keep you alive? But are you talking about rational fear or irrational? Example of rational, getting mugged when you live in a bad neighborhood. Example of irrational. Having a fear of a paticular ethnic group or fear of the dark. How about self help books instead of the bible? They work better.

Luke 12: 4-7: (Jesus speaking)
"I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."

Don't be afraid of people here on Earth, be sure to respect God more, and God does love you and watch out for you: He watches over all his creations, and you are a very special one. ^_^
