I've already tried Prozac at 60 mg, which worked pretty remarkably for a week but then "pooped-out" and stopped working, and Wellbutrin at 200 mg to no results whatsoever. What is the most effective antidepressant out there? In addition to what would be most helpful to me, I'd be interested in the "general" result as well, if this is known.

St. John's Wort (herb) is another alternative you can take a look at with your doctor.
One word of caution, buy from a reputable dealer because the main ingredient (hypericin) in St. John's Wort is not the same throughout every pill. It may be a little low or high from pill to pill. So buy from a well known company.
Some countries, such as Finland, Sweden, and Germany administer St. John's Wort first before medication. It is cheaper and just as effective.
Besides medication and herbs, the main way to beat depression is naturally. Such as getting enough exercise, sunlight, having a healthy diet, etc, etc.
I personally went though the entire regiment of antidepressants (herbs and pills) and it always left me with more symptoms than what I started out with.
Depression is a sign that you body gives you, that you are not giving it what it needs. So take a look at what you are NOT giving your body, you might not need as much medication, or any at all.
Talk to your doctor before taking St. John's wort and discuss what causes depression, and the natural ways to fight it.
A few things to look at and to discuss with your doctor, to help beat depression:
- Are you getting enough sunlight?
- A proper diet?
- Adding a daily vitamin supplements
- Family support
- Getting enough exercise
- Doing activities that increase your happiness (things that you enjoy)
- Staying away from depressive activities and situations
- Getting counselling, or just talking to a family member or friend
- Getting a pet (great for companionship if you live alone)
- Quitting smoking
- Getting enough sleep
- Staying away from alcoholic beverages
- Take a look at fung Shui and rearranging your home environment
- Brightening up your house during the day by opening the curtains/blinds to get your daily dose of natural light
- Lowering caffeine intake or getting rid of it all together
- If you get too much stress from work or home, discuss it with those involved, on how to lower or solve the stressful situations for you

I could go on and on about the things that bring on depression, but it's more individualized, and the things that gives a person the blues, is different from person to person.
Think of your body as an engine, keep it finely tuned and topped up with everything it needs to run efficiently. And remove the things that cause it to "sputter" or stall.
Depression is one of the many body cues that your body gives you when you are not giving it something it needs, or too much of something.
Good luck

Everybody is different.
U have 2 find the most effective medicaiton 4 u
i started off on seroxat, but didnt work so now on effexor which is muich better.
u cant really say which is the most effective because everyone will react differnelty.

Ity usually takes 3 weeks to be effective. To make the antidepressant more effective stay away from alcohol. This is a depressant so works against the antidepressnast.

Generaly results.... kick starts your brain so you feel more positive and wanting to do things. The medication helps you to get going but after that its up to you.

Keep active!! good luck

Try effexor. its good:)

The correct med varies by person. My son used Wellbutrin for several years. When he went to med school, he had to change doctors. The new guy found out his sister used Zoloft, and told him to change, since related people sometimes have similar chemistry. It made a big difference.

I've taken Effexor XR for over 10 years after prozac, and several others. It has no discernable side effects to me, and I have remained relatively stable. Of course with manic depression stability is always temporary anyway.

you need a phsychiatrist to help you with what ever mental help you need ... you need to let out what ever is in your head... mental stress is the worse becouse then you get depressed becouse you are depressed, its a never ending cycle when you have depression... but you have to want to be helped or else nothing is ever gonna work... depression is all in your head, I know I suffer from it.

OH YEAH! AND FIND THINGS TO DISTRACT YOU... like going for a run,gym mall , get a pet, clubs ect.

Hmm...i'm no doctor. But, it's because you have an imballance. First you need to start eating better, give it a few weeks and it should help. (Please don't take my word per say, but I think it's from lack of a 'B vitamin(s).' Secondly--laughter!!! It works miracles ;) Good luck!
