Yesterday while i was chilling with some of my friends i noticed a mentally ill (retarded) person standing by and i was observing him. While i was observing him i noticed that he looked very out of it, like wondering and confused? i dont know. I was wondering how do they think? what goes on in their minds? do they think as normal people do?

When they look in the mirror and see themselfs, do they notice they are differnt? if so how come they cant snap out of it? do they feel like they are trapped inside themselfs? i really dont know what like to find out....i am very curious about this..

Good question. I'm putting this on my watch list.

*******************

Personally, I think it depends on the seriousness of the disability and the cause of it. My friends mother works with physically and mentally handicapped children. Some of them are just physically challenged and they know what is going on and understand that they are mentally capable of realizing certain things but their physical handicap holds them back partially or completely from fulfilling those mental tasks. As far as the people with mental disabilities, who really knows but them. I wonder if there have been any studies done on this subject, I'm sure there has.

I have often wondered the same thing though, and I know your question wasn't meant to insult, even though some took it that way and some were insulting towards you. That's Yahoo! for ya.

It sounds such as think ofyou've got submit worrying rigidity ailment. between the potential indications of PTSD is a form of emotional numbing and absence of ability to sense something. despite the indisputable fact that, you'll want to get a better thorough evaluation by ability of a psychiatrist to ascertain if this what the precedence is. you say you probably did not adventure any worrying events yet then you describe events which could be worrying to every person. you need to search for treatment at a Veterans administration well being facility. you say that you do not sense guilt or regret which could aspect out a personality ailment unrelated for your wrestle yet you also say that you cry once you once you imagine of something undesirable taking position to someone. No one knows unless you ARE that person. Imagine that there is a superior race that is much more efficient and intelligent than us and only looks slightly different than us. They can fly, have X-ray vision, can teleport, shoot lazer beams out of their eyes, move objects with their mind, calculators and textbooks for brains, etc. They might think the same thing. The way they operate is the same as we operate. Depends on the perspective though.

can you just snap out of being a boy or a girl? how about black or white? No you cannot and please do not think for one minute that all people do not have feelings because they do. They hurt, love, laugh, cry and feel pain just like you do. Do they think the way the rest of us do? Yes they do they think about love, hate , jobs etc... it may not be on the same intelectual level but it is still there.

Just like a cat or a child feels and realizes he's different to an adult human being, so do people with down syndrome (aka "retards").
But, like children or cats, the people with down syndrome realize that they are different and accept themselves for who they are.
I don't think they feel trapped.

Only grown "normal adults" lost in the jungle of urban life and shallow society don't accept themselves for who they are.

I have no idea to what degree they are self aware or aware that they are different. Their thinking is very concrete, not abstract. However they FEEL the same emotions as everyone else, so if you treat them badly, they can tell. If you tell them to "snap out of it", they will have no idea what you're talking about, but they can tell you're putting them down.

I don't think that they think like we do for the fact that mentality has to do with your stat of mind and challenge is something that blocks you,
there fore i think they do not think like that because of the saying Mentally Challenged. Thank you
I rest my case
