I don't know if you have any control over that since it's going to her house. You need to be sure to put in a change of address. The best person to ask is the Supervisor at the Post Office. He can tell you if she has a right to open the mail or not. I know it's in your name, but it is her address. That could be a tricky situation.

We had alot of missing mail. One day, we came home and found some mail opened on our porch with a trail leading to the neighbors. Right in front of their house was the payment book to my new car. We called the police and they said it wasn't enough evidence, so we went to the post office. They said the police HAD to file a report since there was proof of tampering with mail. We pretty much figured this since it was a federal crime. We never heard from the Post Master General, so we called to find out what was going on. They said that the police never filed the report.

I believe your best source of help will be at the Post Office so you can find out exactly what the law is since the mail goes to her house. Good luck!!

Call your local post office and ask for the number to

the Postal Inspector.

Did you put in an address change? Would be a smart thing to do.

Also.....unless you are willing to lock up your fiance's grandma in a federal jail for being nosy.....and plan on not having a fiance anymore.....I'd just put in the address change, go to the local post office and make sure they have the change put in, talk to the postal delivery person and tell them if they don't forward the mail as instructed that you will file a complaint against them also.

And then get on with your and your fiance's life together and live happily ever after!!

The End.

Why did you not change your address when you left? You want to file a complaint because you moved out and failed to notify people of your new address and failed to notify the post office of your new address? How is your poor old fiance's grandmother to know if it's important or junk unless she opens it? Have you offered to pay her to remail everything, sight unseen?

Maybe she should charge you for serving as your unwilling postmistress.

Complaints are made to the postal inspectors or your post office. Under the circumstances, I don't think you'll get too far.

The US Post Office IS a Federal entity, they have authority.I would start out by contacting the postal service. If someone is reading mail intended for you, then a law has been broken, tampering with mail is a federal offense, punishable by law, with imprisonment carried out by law.
If you want it stopped, then you must do so by contacting either the postal service or your local law enforcement division, otherwise it will continue.

YOu go to the local post master and file a complaint with the postmaster ( they will have a form)

Since you have moved out, why have you not had your mail changed to your new address.

go to your local post office and ask them for the number for the local postal inspector. Those guys have federal arrest powers and are the enforcement arm of the post office. They deal with all kinds of mail crimes and would be a good start for you.
