Dogs will stare for attention. They are waiting for a reaction from you. Either they anticipate you are about to do something, or they are asking you to do something. Usually, it's "pet me" or "feed me" or "let's go outside."

Most often though the dog simply wants to get your attention and notice so you will acknowledge their presence. The main reason they stare at you is to get your interaction with them. A pat on the head and a scratch behind the ears.

What is going on when your Poodle is staring at you? Are you doing any sort of activity? If she is just staring at you, she could be fixated. This is sometimes not so good. If you are not already doing this, walk your dog at least 30 minutes everyday. It's possible that if she's not getting this type of exercise then she is bored or has pent up energy that she's unable to get rid of. Asking why your dog is staring at you is not as simple as that. You need to ask, My Poodle is staring at me because...., and also because... Try walking her for 30 minutes everyday. Feed her only after the walk. The reason for this, is the food is her reward for a job well done. Walking is a job for dogs believe it or not. Remember when dogs are wild and travel in packs, they have to walk/run everywhere, that includes finding their food/water/shelter. So, when you are done walking your dog, and then you feed her, this is her reward. Always remember to let your dog cool down a bit before feeding so she doesn't get sick. Also remember that the size of the dog does not matter; they all need to be walked. Thank you.

When your dog stares at you it usually means it wants something. Sooner or later you'll figure out it's different stares. Like you figure out babies different cries. My dog stares with it's ears perked up if it wants to play.. when she needs to go outside once she's made eye contact she'll turn her face to the door. and if she's tired you can tell because she'll stare at you like her eyes are about to close and her ears will be drooping. But if your dog is staring at you all the time. Maybe you need to give it more attention.. pet it more, play with it more, give more walks. It may be the type of dog that's an "attention hogger" which means it'll stare at you longing for you to at least touch them.

Try talking to it and giving it a hug whenever it stares. Perhaps it gets a feeling of security seeing and knowing you're around. :)

But some poodles could be cheeky sometimes...used to have a male one who was always up to tricks and would go under women's skirt especially when they're having their period.

Dogs look each other in the eye to challenge each other for dominance. She could be doing this. But I have a male Rottweiler and he looks at me all the time. He is my shadow. But I have a female that could care less. It can go both ways.

If she is staring you down, then she is trying to dominate you. If she is just watching you, then she sees you as her leader and is looking for guidance or cues from you.
