I have a friend who goes to church with me. He recently told me that he's gay. He's only told two other people so far, his two sisters. And I asked him what he's going to do about church, since the people there don't approve of homosexuality. And he isn't going to go anymore.

Now, ever since he told me all this, I've been looking in the bible and talking with other Christian friends about homosexuality, and I'm pretty pissed off about the Christian attitude toward it. I don't think it's wrong, and I think he was born this way (ever since we were kids he's always been a little, uh, fruity, I'll say). So I keep asking why God would make someone this way just to label them a sinner and outsider. What kind of just and loving God is this? This situation has really got me questioning my faith, and everyone tells me to hate the sin but not the sinner. Well, I don't want to hate ANYTHING! Anyway, my buddy says he's been looking into Wicca. What is that? Does it say gay is wrong?

If someone is a Wicca will you IM me please? I'm not interested in it, but I want to know what my buddy is getting into. We've always protected each other, and I'm not going to stop now.

Wicca actully is an organized religion, with a set of tenets just like any other organized religion. These tenets may be interpreted differently among different factions, just like any other organized religion...

That said, Wicca and most other Non-Abrahamic belief systems are generally more tolerant about sexuality as they are earth-reverent more than theistic (in other words, more about personal spirituality and less about who is a better practitioner of that religion than whom).

For the love of whatever deity you may hold holy, if you're thinking about completely changing your religion over something like that, let me tell you that you weren't that Christian to begin with! There are Christian groups out there which don't condemn homosexuality...and a true "Christian", in my opinion, remembers Jesus' comment on "judging, lest ye be judged".

I'm not a Christian, by any means, but I do believe Jesus had some pretty good ideas. So did the Buddha, for that matter.

Don't jump into a random religion without fully understanding what you're getting into. Wicca is *based* on old religions, but it is not the original Celtic / Druid religion (most of that information was lost when Christianity took over Europe).

The best answer for you, is to start exploring all other options. You might find that you like bits and pieces of many, supposedly conflicting religions...or "none of the above". Find what sounds right to you!

Sorry if that comes off a little cheesy. :)

This is probably one of the best questions I've seen on this place.

I was born Roman Catholic too but I never believed that homosexuality was wrong precisely for the reasons you said. How can God make his children this way only to outcast them.

The Church is based on human interpretations of the Bible and the Bible was written by humans divinely inspired. I think that Catholics and Christians don't have to go very far to accept all God's children but they simply won't. It gives them something to do and as long as the higher powers in the Church continue to be prejudiced against it then the followers will always stigmatize those who are gay, lesbian, bi, transgendered.

Wicca is a religion based on earth spirituality. It is based on the 'Old Religion' where someone's sexual orientation was not an issue. The 'Old Religion' worships many different god/desses and its rituals are based on seasons, cycles, moon cycles, sun cycles, and it was Christianity that took the 'Old Religion', changed it around, and made what we know today as Christianity.

Wicca accepts everybody but people who are wanting to practice 'black magic.' Wiccans believe in this principle:

'Do as ye will but HARM NONE.'

That is a central tenet of Wicca. Your friend will find much love and tolerance in Wicca. He will be able to be himself and celebrate very similar holidays as Christians, since Christianity is based on the 'Old Religion.'

I hope that explains it. There's so much to learn but your friend is following his heart and that's to be respected. You may feel the need to question and eventually leave your tradition and take up another in order to reconcile your own beliefs. I wish you well and hope you find a good path.

Wicca is not an organized religion and therefore it does not 'say' anything ultimately. Beyond the feeling of unification, wiccans hold all sorts of different beliefs. I know Wiccans who believe that homosexuality is an abberant condition, and others who think heterosexuality is outright gross. Pretty much the whole spectrum of belief.

What is more important in wicca is what YOU believe. If you believe homosexuality is not wrong, then why do you need the validation of a particular religious title? Believe as your heart guides you and to heck with all the words and all the people who say otherwise.

Also, stick with your belief that it is how he was born. There is a growing body of scientific evidence (twin studies, genetic studies, brain scans) that show there is a biological component to homosexuality.

Yeah you'll get a lot of Christians telling you to tell your friend to come back to Jesus and stuff. Ok I am bisexual and a Wiccan.

Wiccans believe that the world is made up of male and female energies that make up every single one of us. We don't believe that anyone is absolutely male or absolutely female. Partly because of our belief in reincarnation that says we may have been a different sex in a previous life. And Partly because our Gods are part of us and Nature and those energies are not absolute as mentioned above.

I'd love to talk with you further on the subject. I used to be a devout Christian until I realized that I had strong attractions to the same sex and that my religiion didn't approve of my NATURAL feelings.

Also I'd like to note that many animal species like mice and cats also have homosexual members. Naturists and Biologists agree its good for the species because it promotes others in the species to procreate without distraction.

Wicca is a nature-based pagan religion. The religion itself has nothing against homosexuality - but that doesn't mean that some people who practice it won't be. I'm learning about Wicca, but I can't really tell you much - as far as I can tell, though, it's a much more tolerant religion than Christianity.

I don't know about Wicca but one of my friends is going through the samething and we go to a Catholic school together. Only 3 more people who are my friends know and we don't really say anything about about it anymore we got used to the idea but still worry about him. I don't think its a sin and I really stand by him. I like my religion and God but I rather become a atheist then leave him behind

Wiccans and other Pagans tend to be very tolerant of differences since they themselves are a minority and would like to be tolerated by others who are different. Treat others as you would like to be treated. There's always an exception, but most would probably have no problem with a person being homosexual.

IMO, we need to think like a box of crayons. They are all different colors, yet they are able to "live" together all in the same box. The more colors there are, the prettier the picture. :-)

Wicca accepts homosexuals for who they are. It's a religion based on the ancient practices of pre-Christian times. They believe that God is male and female, and inherent in all of nature (trees, oceans, animals, etc.). Wicca does not teach intolerance for gays or lesbians, for we believe they are children of the Goddess, and She made them this way. They are just as precious as the rest of us, and we don't believe they should try to change who they are. Blessed be.

The Wiccan Rede (you can think of it as the Wiccan's Prime Directive) is "As you harm none, do as you will." There's a few ways of saying it, but it's all the same thing. The point of this is that so long as he's not hurting anything with his homosexuality, it's kosher.
