They were both kind of insane. Van Gough cut his ear off for a chick. Dali just tripped on acid and sleep deprivation. I love them both.

Tough question. Have your pick between two mad men, haha. Dalí supported the fascist regime of Franco, and like any other who first supports left-wing extreme politics and then turns the other way, I loathe this attitude. That said, some of his dadaist and surreal works and statements are sublime. My fellow countryman Van Gogh (Gough or Ó Cuacháin is an Irish name, lol) was a manic, a depressed figure tormented by muses and poverty, and famous only after his death. His art is more conventional perhaps, but intrinsically better. Where Dalí expressed ideas and statements in his works, Van Gogh made "l'art pour l'art" - he was an artist first and foremost, whereas Dalí was a showman first, I think. That's not to say he was a shite artist, but still. I always favour the underdog, the sensitive and the self-depreciating fellow man, so despite my hate towards the Dutch and how they rape an artist who never knew riches commercially now, I prefer Van Gogh.

Well to start off before you compare two incredible artists you shouldn't say comments like "He cut off his ear for some chick" or "He took LSD." When you speak about two of our most memorable artists you should say an intellegent fact or comment not an immature statement which are not even true. Van Gogh did not cut off his ear for the girl he was in love with, it had more to do with a disease he had called Vertigo which made him hear a loud and annoying buzz in his ear all day. Van Gogh suffered alot and cut off his ear b.c of agony not for "some chick"...Secondly Van Gogh and Dali were so much more then these meaningless facts so i think you should think twice before you entitle a question ARTISTS!!?? and then insult art appreciators with your question

Difficult. Do you prefer clouds or the wind? Sleep or Dreams? The Moon or the Stars? Myself, Vincent.

Vincent Van Gough, definitely! I love his brushstrokes, and his use of color! I enjoy his subjects more, too!

Van Gogh. His work is more emotional, while Dali's is just odd.

Dali is my complete favorite. In fact, I painted his "Meditative Rose" for my final art project in school this year. He is genius.
