why do guys act like they care one minute and then they are mean to you the next minute?

Because they are guys. Girls minds are more of a montage, everything is linked to and part of everything else. Now a guy's mind is separated into compartments. He has 'work side', 'fun side' and 'girlfriend side'. and they are not linked in any way shape or form. When a guy is in one state of mind, that is all he thinks about. When he is having fun with the guys, he has no girlfriend(or anything else) in his mind.
