It's not that they don't want to mess up the friendship...that's a load of BS. They just don't want to hurt your feelings by letting you know that they don't see you in that way.
We do the same thing when we tell a girl that we aren't ready for a relationship...it's just the easy way of saying we aren't that into you.
If someone IS so great and everything works so well then why wouldn't you want more with them? Obviously something's not to your liking. Some people are up front and honest, others are scared of telling someone the truth, and others still are completely in denial.

means they dont fancy you but they are trying to be nice about it. go for her best mate, that will piss her off then she will ask you out coz she will be scared shes gonna miss out on something that her pal will get but not her.
