I've read that some people think that dinosaurs were put on this planet as a test of faith. If that's the case, why do we possess logic? According to these people, even though there is overwhelming evidence of dinosaurs, we're supposed to ignore what logic tells us and blindly believe, even though logic's necessary to our decision-making and daily lives and what have you. I don't understand why our brain operates the way it does if we're encouraged to ignore it in certain situations.

Science, logic, reason, and critical thought have long been regarded (by religious people) as the enemies of religion. Considering that those are the tools of highly intelligent people, it should not come as a huge shock to learn that intelligence (or lack of it) has some connection to religious belief. In fact, there are about 20 studies, conducted over a period of 80 years or so, that reveal a statistically significant NEGATIVE CORRELATION between intelligence and religiosity. In plainer language, that means that they found that the more intelligent a person is, the LESS likely that person is to be religious.

If you think about it, those findings make a lot of sense. Intelligence tests mainly provide an indication of reasoning ability and problem solving ability... logic, reason and critical thought. These are the very qualities that see through religion, and recognize it for what it is; i.e., religion cannot survive the glaring light of reason and critical thought. This was well understood by important figures in religious history. This is why the early church destroyed all the 'tainted' (non-canonical) writings, which were in conflict with dogma... Greek philosophy, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, engineering... all the good stuff. By this means, Christianity dragged humanity directly into the Dark Ages.

Just to illustrate the point, let's see what Martin Luther, the 'father' of protestantism, had to say about 'reason' and secular knowledge:

"Reason must be deluded, blinded, and destroyed. Faith must trample underfoot all reason, sense, and understanding, and whatever it sees must be put out of sight and ... know nothing but the word of God." ~ Martin Luther

"Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has; it never comes to the aid of spiritual things, but -- more frequently than not -- struggles against the divine Word, treating with contempt all that emanates from God." ~ Martin Luther

"There is on earth among all dangers no more dangerous thing than a richly endowed and adroit reason... Reason must be deluded, blinded, and destroyed." ~ Martin Luther

"Reason should be destroyed in all Christians." ~ Martin Luther

Christianity is essentially a criminal business enterprise... in fact, it is the world's longest running and most successful Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) scam. The product they are selling is 'salvation'... and the 'pay plan' doesn't kick in until after you're dead. What a racket! FORTUNATELY, it only works on those who are gullible enough, and sufficiently lacking in critical thinking skills, to fall for it. UNfortunately, THAT accounts for about 62% of the population of the USA. (There are a lot more people who DON'T know how to think properly than there are people who DO know how to think properly.) That is why there are a lot more religious people in the USA than there are 'Free-thinkers'... including Atheists. Also, Christians are generally too dense to realize that proselytizing (spreading the 'good news') is a key element of the Christian MLM MARKETING PLAN, which was instituted after Christianity lost the political power that had previously allowed them to simply torture and kill anybody who did not comply. Now, they attempt to just pester people to death, through persistent obliviousness and obnoxiousness. If you stop to think about it, you will realize that Christians are very much like the Borg, on Star Trek Next Generation: "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile." I would not be surprised to learn that thoughts of Christianity provided the 'creative spark' for the Borg concept.

Don't beat you self up over logic. The guy who wrote the rules for logic back in 335BC. His name was Aristotle and he was a very smart guy, but he concluded after much logical introspection that the earth rested on the back of a turtle, and that turtle was on the back of another turtle and so on and so on forever.
I'm not kidding. It's in his teachings.
Relax, I know for a fact that God is real, OK.
Has science ever had a valid explanation on how the laws that govern the universe were written, or how a bunch of brain cells creates conscious.
science teaches us that we cannot get something from nothing.
With out a creator there can be no creation.

Faith is not "blind faith". It never says anything about "blind faith" in the Bible. The Christian faith is founded on true historical events that can be verified by the evidence. We do not trust in a God who doesn't know what He is doing, but we trust in a God who knows all things and has proven Himself to always be faithful. Most Christians do believe that there were dinosaurs. Some Christians, such as myself are old-earth creationists who believe that the Genesis creation days were long periods of time. I don't believe in darwinian evolution though because modern science supports biblical creation, not darwinian evolution. Go to www.reasons.org

Who is telling you that we're supposed to think dinosaurs aren't real?

If you are serious, I pity the people telling you that.

If you haven't actually heard anyone say that, but you've only heard other people mocking people who say that, I am willing to bet they are making it up just to make Christians look stupid.

No Christian that I have ever met thinks dinosaurs are a test of faith!!!

God gave us our brains to use them, not bury them! Yes, logic is good. Do not abandon it.

dinosaurs are described in the Bible. read the book of Job chapters 40-42> The Bible doesn't describe everything in detail about God's creation, instead God revealed to us a simple "easy to understand" 7 day creation, inorder for everyone, young and old, to be able to comprehend. YET, the main focus of faith, religion, or the Bible is not about nature, but of how we should live our lives and how we can return to God> peace.

So....you're believing one random source? THAT is not logical. I remember a verse in the Bible that tells us to find the truth and hold fast to it. We are supposed to find the truth in things, and not be swayed by lies. Nowhere in the Bible does it say, "Don't believe in dinosaurs." That's just some bored guy's ramblings. God bless!

I think theists logic escaped at some point during childhood. But if anyone can find it they will just walk into it and realize everything. But unfortunately for now it's gone for good. Or perhaps it migrated to us atheists where it knew it would be loved and put to good use. Say no to jesus.

Good point. God (sic) gave us logic to find out if we are smart enough to use it, and if we use it to realize he doesn't exist we have passed the test. If we believe he exists, thus NOT using the logic he gave us, we fail.
Wrap yourself around that
I passed the test!

Have you bothered to read these boards? Most people apparently seem to lack this logical-thought creature of which you speak.

dinosaurs happened before the time the bible was written, supposedly, that's why they can't explain their existence and make up some story to corrborate the bible anyways. interesting really,,,,,,,,
