This is neither pro nor anti immigration, it just seems like a cop-out that the Feds are leaving it to the states to adopt their own immigration policies. I thought, if the Feds did nothing else, it was their job to control relations between the States, and to control the borders and foreign relations? Anyone else think the feds are growing a yellow stripe down their back by not taking a firm stance either way?

It absolutely is there responsibility and it goes right to the character of our elected officials that they would rather disregard the law rather than face the public and actually change it.

We need to vote all incumbents out of office.

The stripe down the backs of the federal government is glow in the dark yellow.I'm ashamed of Bush for not taking a firm stance on the immigration issue, instead all we get is this amnesty crap(i dont care what they try to disguise it as, it's still amnesty). We don't need mass deportations, if the feds would fine the hell out of companies that hire illegals, with NO excuses, the reason illegals are here in the first place would dry up.Companies that i have worked for did background checks on me and uncovered sh!t that even i have long forgot about.

The stripe was already there. The Federal government has done nothing about border security at all. It has been state officials and local law enforcement that have been stepping up and taking the illegal immigration problem on head first. I liked this question.

I'd rather they did nothing than have anything like the Senate Bill. The total numbers would be a death sentence for our already suffering schools and services, at a time when baby boomer retirement is fast approaching.

I certainly don't begrudge the House its 'hearing filibuster' until after the elections when, with luck, there will be better Senators to work with on a new bill.

But absolutely I blame the Bush Administration and the administrations before it for failing to enforce the laws we already have.

It is there job, and they have all the laws in place to do it
( so we really don't even need more laws)
we just need 1. funding for enforcemnet and supplies to close the borders 2. judges that will act on the issue, and not merley turn the people lose after they are caught with a ticket to appear back in court.

Honestly, it's YOUR job to control who comes in and out of YOUR state, and YOUR country. The gov't represents the people, that's why it's elected and the people are those who establish it. They simply represent the attitude of those governed. If you know their is an illegal immigrant in town, it's your job to tell them to leave, and if they don't, then call the local authorities, then in involve the state, then the feds.

No, I think it amounts to 'intentional negligence', as in "This is what we're supposed to do, and this is what we'll ACTUALLY do" etc., and they're waiting for the chips to fall in wherever they will...
