dont worry, im not a smoker, thats why im asking this question or else i would have figured it out as to how people generally begin.

i hate it when people dont answer the question and over evaluate what they think is going on when they are completely wrong.

It's almost how people who's parents are alcoholics, become alcoholics themselves. My dad smoked and so do I (he's quit smoking for some time now). I started because I was chronically depressed and suicidal as a teenager and the way my logic worked at the time was that smoking kills and I wanted to kill myself quite slowly. It also helped me not to be so depressed all the time, too. So, in a way, smoking has actually saved my life because if it wasn't for that, I'd probably off'd myself quickly a long time ago.

I smoke so I can stop working before retirement. I will get sick and start collecting disability, so I do not have to wait until 65 to get my gonvernment check. I started while just going out, drinking and dancing. I really started smoking heavy once I was in the Army, it helped kill time and they always said, smoke them if you got them. But as I got older, I have cut back, but still not able to quit.

Everybody in my family smokes so I guess I just picked it up because i've always been around it. When I was little I swore I would never smoke and damn if I didn't start. Now I wish I never did.

40 year smoker.. Back in the day, my dad used to roll his own ( it was along time ago) and whenever he was driving he would ask me to light them for him and I got addicted. Tried several times to quit.
