Just buy a straight iron. I recommend the brand Chi for the straight iron. It's $100, but it's totally worth it. Don't use chemicals!

I had mine done a a present for my 18th birthday. It took 5 hrs & cost $600 AUD
Basically they wash it, straighten it, chemical it, you sit there for an hour, they wash out the first chemicals, straighten it, chemical it again, you cannot move for 15-20 mins, they wash it, straighten it & then you are free. Well except for the bit about not being able to wet it or put it up or behind your ears or anything like that for 1 week.
It is worth it though. I do reccomend you take a good book or a few magazines however.

Well, it depends on your hair. If it is "kinky" then you will end up having to get it straightened about once a month. When I get mine done it burns, but I think it's worth it. Unless you have slightly lose curly hair (which I think the process is a little different) then I say just leave your hair alone.

Well, since i haven't gotten it done yet its really not first hand advice. but my sister had Japanese straightening done and it came out really nice. for her, since her hair wasn't really curly it last for about a year. she never had any problems with it and if she needed to take a shower in a hurry and didn't have time to dry it, it would dry straight by itself. the only downfall of this is that it takes such a long time to do and you cant wash for about a week after its done.

I find that if your hairs curly - make the best out of it. I paid big money to have my neice's hair straightened and it lasted a week - at best...... Now she leaves it curly and puts gel on it (really long hair) and the curls are defined and she looks so nice with curly hair - don't fight it......
