For starters, just look at the history of Catholicism in the world; it's a spin of a pagan religion IE. the Madonna holding the baby Jesus, was copied from a pagan god, a queen that married her own son, the adoration or the so called saints, the infallibility of the Popes decisions, The transubstantiation, where the wine becomes the real blood of the Lord, making Him pay for the redemption of our sins over and over again. The infallibility of the authority of the Catholic Church. Salvation through the baptism in the Catholic Church. I can go on and on. The Catholic Church is "another Gospel" and they are not considered to be Christians by Bible Believers or fundamentalists. They don't believe according to the Bible. If they believe that the Church's teachings will bring salvation, well, then I am sorry to say that according to the teachings of the Word of God they are not saved then. Confession of Sin to a man. Forbidding marriage. The priest mediating between man and God. Every thing that I have mention is scripturally based. As far I am concerned I will never share a pulpid with a Catholic Priest, I consider them as Jehovah Witness, and Mormons ; all of them answer to a different Gospel. The Bible talks in Revelation 17 of a woman that rides the Beast, drunk with the blood of the saints (catholic people been deceived by her, The Catholic Church) and what a coincidence! the woman dresses in Purple and Scarlet and is glitering with gold (make your own conclusions please. Who wears those colors?, I'll give you a clue, He resides in the Vatican) "This calls for a mind with wisdom", says the Bible, the seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. Isn't Rome the City of the seven hills? Use wisdom as the scriptures advices, and then make your own conclusions.

I think that there are many good God-fearing Christians in that church that think that what they're doing is right. I think it is not (sorry to be so frank...). I know the answer that yellow_jellybeans_rock gave, that included John 20:22-3, but I believe that that passage was misinterpreted. Like in John 14:6, where Jesus says, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." That would mean that it is not from the Bible to go to a priest to confess our sins. Also, we are not supposed to worship idols. In Exodus 20:4-6 & Deuteronomy 5:8-10, where the Bible clearly states that we are not to do so. I know many people say that "Oh, that was the old covenant", or "we're not under the law; we're under grace." (On a side note: when Jesus was tempted three times by the devil, each time, He quoted from Deuteronomy!) But Jesus kept the Ten Commandments. Look in Luke 4:16. He kept the 4th commandment there, & therefore it stands to reason that He kept the other 9, too (that's another thing: Catholics keep Sunday, yet Jesus, our example, kept Saturday, & nowhere after His resurrection did He or any of His apostles say we are to keep Sunday in honor of the resurrection). Jesus said out of His own mouth that the law is not changed (that would mean we're still to obey it. Look @ Matthew 5:18; John 13:18 & 17:12). Ephesians 2:8 says we are saved my grace through faith. But if you say we are not to keep the 10 Commandments, then I guess you're saying that it is alright to steal your car or the money in the offering plate, or it's ok for someone to cheat on their spouse, or it's ok to kill your friend? Doesn't sound reasonable to me. And what is a Eucahrist (I know I didn't spell that right!)? Smile! :)

I'm Antiochian Orthodox and we were the first Christian Church (read your Bibles, heathens!) Those who think "Catholics" introduced too much "non-biblical stuff" have no clue how Christianity developed. THERE WAS NO BIBLE for more than 300 years. How do you think people taught each other before the Council of Nicea?

You think that Catholics developed "manmade" traditions, like infant baptism and confession. In truth, these have been practiced since the time of the apostle Paul. Lydia "and her entire household" were baptized in Acts. The apostolic faiths all agree that children have been baptized since the inception of the faith.

People who think that "Catholics go to a priest, Christians go to God" misunderstand John 20:22-23

"And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."

This sacrament of reconciliation is one of THE most biblical things the Catholic Church does. We can deceive ourselves when our only conversations are internal. But when we speak out loud to God through the person of the priest, then we are challenged out loud to understand the gravity of our sins and ensure that we ask for forgiveness. This is a "Jesus invention", not a Catholic invention, and all of the apostolic faiths have done this since the beginning.

Frankly, I find too many Protestants are Bible-worshippers. They don't understand "Christianity", they understand "bibleology". It's really very sad because the teachings of the apostles are fundamental to understanding the Bible. Perhaps this is why so many worship Daniel and Revelation rather than contextualizing them as apocrypha.

Since Mormons and Catholics are also Christians, i am guessing it makes sense to assume you mean evangelical Protestants.

The reason they call themselves Protestants is because they protest against the teachings of the Catholic Church.

For example, most Protestants do not believe humans need anyone, such as a priest or bishop or pope between them and God.

In my case, I think the priests and the pope are too bossy. The Catholic Church has a number of sacraments. The priests and nuns have their sacrament, which is Holy Orders.

Married people have their own sacrament, which is Matrimony.

The priests have taken over the sacrament which is not theirs, which is matrimony.

I agree that abortion is wrong, but they also claim birth control is wrong. Clearly, since b/c does not involve killing anyone, that is only the business of the married couple, and the priests have no more right to tell them what to do in that case, than the married couple have a right to tell the priests and nuns what to do -- as long as they don't abuse kids.

Another thing, the Catholic Church preaches that divorce is an unforgivable sin, and the Bible says there is only one unforgivable sin, and that sure isn't divorce.

That's a tough question because you get a wide variety of answers.

For me personally i think whether a person is a Christian or Catholic, etc. you ask them personally what they believe about Christ, The Bible, etc.

I have Catholic friends who believe that Jesus is not God and that is very different from Christianity. Then we have Mother Teresa who not only shared the gospel in many of her writings but had a lfie which truly reflected Christ in her heart.

In terms of fundamentals it is:

1) Who is Jesus?
2) Source of Authority? (Some of my Catholic friends put the Pope's authority on equal level with the Bible).
3) How does one become saved?

**Those are probably 3 good areas of discussion to start. It's hard to put everyone in a box but the importance is differentiating between genuine and false faith (not so you can judge) but so that you can share.

Hope that helps...

Blessings!

actual? I surely have reported a lot the same yet Hitler's holocaust turned right into a lot less about his personal faith than those we've happening those days. changed into he a Catholic? How can a narcissist incredibly be a Catholic even as he places no one above himself? similar could be reported for different faiths. faith isn't an opiate, a techniques from it. faith is a catalyst of lack of life and destruction. Hitler hated Jews, atheists, homosexuals, and, even as he switched to a special Christian sect in a while (Hitler changed into no longer a Pagan), Catholics a lot the same. Christians will say he's an atheist, he has proved in his personal words that he's not, despite the indisputable fact that the very fact remains that megalomaniacs and despots many times enroll in three fairy tale to assist save the lots in line. i could ask the Christians how they sense about the religious genocides contained in the Sudan and Darfur yet, heck, it really is only no longer reliable to impress the fundamentalists even as they are so motive on perfect ignorant.

There are many good God loving catholics but because they are catholics they still have a lot to learn about true Christianity and how to get rid of the nonbiblical stuff man has inserted into their belief system.

Like Mary and saints and statues and priest and confessionals are such an important part of their religion that you must take them slowly step by step to wean them off of these things and towards the bible.

I would like to clerify one thing. WE DO NOT WORSHIP MARY THE MOTHER OF CHRIST OR THE SAINTS. Think of this. Evey christian asks other people to pray for them, right? Well, Catholics ask the mother of Christ to pray for them also. After all, who better to ask prayer from than the mother of the ALMIGHTY SAVIOR. Yes, thats right. We really do believe that Jesus is the savior of the world. We believe he is God in the flesh. Our beliefs on Jesus are the same as other christians, really. As for the saints--- we only ask for their prayers and guidance just the same as other christians ask each other for their prayers and guidance. We also go straight to God with our prayers and issues. As for the idols. We don't pray to statues. We are very visual. When you look at a cross, what do you think about? If you are a christian, you think about what Christ endured for us. Having visual stimulus helps me keep focused on God. So when I am praying I can think of nothing else. Honest, it's true. I'm not being a jerk, honest. I truely just want to clerify a few things. The way I see it, we all can use all the help we can get. I do wish however that we would have more detailed bible teaching such as in sunday school. THANK YOU --- YELLOW_JELLY!!! GOD BLESS YOU SWEETIE!

Well my take on Catholicism is that it is a religion of convenience, much like Buddhism. Catholics believe that Jesus exist but they don't really believe he is the Savior of the World. They chose to worship and pray to Mary, thinking that she will get them to Heaven, or possibly purgatory (which doesn't exist). Jesus makes many claims that he is "THE WAY. THE TRUTH. THE LIFE" and that NO man can come to the father but through him. Catholics don't believe that. Catholics would rather celebrate the Death of Christ with the Crucifix than celebrate the Resurrection of Christ with the EMPTY Cross. Christ taught us not to allow Wine to be a Mocker and to not be a stumbling block unto other men, where Catholics practice drink and be merry. Catholics believe that they have to confess their sins to a man and say a few Hail Marys to be forgiven where Jesus teaches us to confess your sins to Him and Repent and you will gain forgiveness. I'm sorry I can't follow a religion that chooses to raise the mother of the Savior higher than the Savior himself.

I was raised Catholic and was very aware of God as a child but did not read the bible. I am a bornagain now and realize that some of the practices they teach simply is not taught in the Bible or they do things that the Bible forbids them to do. Also I believe that some Catholics really do have a relationship with Jesus but they are not fully aware of the truth written in The Word of God.
