Mabee the bible is just the 2000 year old version of 'Barny the Dinosaw', only including stories of good samaritains rather than a big gay dinosaw singing 'i love you, you love me...', desingned to teach what was believed to be the right way to act and behave at the time. Then people just took it too far and religion was born, destined to reek havock on the world.

*snore* God you are boring, tired, and lacking in any creativity. Is that all you have? Is your life so very empty, so lacking in human contact, love, or affection that your only pleasure is demeaning others beliefs? I know you will disregard this but late at night when you are all alone...attempt some human growth and try to get a life

Christ man, have you no intelligence?? You attempt to start an inteligent arguement, but your spelling and grammar inform us of your ignorance...

Unfortunately, the Bible and other holy books were not written as childrens stories - although they seem to be fairy tales now. No, unfortunately, these books were written kinda like our modern science books - they were supposed to answer all questions of the unknown... And we all know how the unknown can only be attributed to a God in the sky! NOT!!

Im with ya on the "say no to religion" thing - but use spell check so you at least give an aire of slight intelligence...

I wouldn't say they were intended just for children. But the rest of your theory is on target with what Biblical scholars and archaeologists have discovered.

The best detailed explanation of how place, time, and local politics influenced the writings of the Torah aka Five Books of Moses aka Pentateuch is Richard Friedman's book "Who Wrote the Bible?"

I think the bible was a clever way of explaining science to the unschooled peasants. It was not meant to be taken literally. The most entertaining man in the market place was the story teller. He had to tell good stories to get paid. If he explained things scientifically no one would listen. So he fluffed the real stories out a lot to make them understandable by the peasants who came to listen to him.

If you really want to find some insight into this question, I suggest you read books by educated scholars instead of asking Joe Schmo on the internet what he thinks. I read a book called "God Wrote a Book" by James McDonald. It's really straightforward, short, and easy to read.

Except, Barney is written on a child's level. I just don't see the scriptures written that way.

So, please share, where did you develop such a deep skepticism for religion? Usually, someone has been burnt badly by a person claiming to be religious to be so angry.

you have things reasoned out to suit your own purpose and that is to discredit biblical teachings and prove that your own theory is more viable.... using your own way of thinking I could prove Little Red Riding Hood was asking for trouble and deserved to be eaten by the Big Bad Wolf....

How do you think that these "morals" that you speak of came about. If there were no God then how would we know to differentiate between right and wrong?
