Go to the respective IM provider's website and follow the instructions for downloading. Sometimes though, your computer is not going to let you perform the download because it has a fire wall or some other kind of virus defense. Make sure that all your pop blockers and Internet security settings are ready for you to download IM.

go to the website of the im u want. (E.x www.aim.com) and go to where it says download now. follow the instructions.
