The most common problem with headphones is the wire breaking, either right at the plug or right at the headphone. You can replace the plug fairly easy. Just cut it off and solder on a new one. You will need to know which wire go where or be able to figure it out. If the wire broke at the headphone, you have to take them apart and shorten the wire to remove the place where it is broken. Depending on the headphone, this may not be practical. Some headphones are not built to be taken apart. The plastic can be sonically welded together.

If this work is more than you know how to do, keep buying them. If you have to pay someone, it would cost more than they are worth.
