Luke i have spent the better part of my life with Special Operations in one capacity or another, so i will try to explain the differences to you as best as i can, first let me tell you a little about my background. I entered service in 79 and went through Ranger school shortly afterwards i was deployed to Germany in a training role attached to the 10th special forces group as a LRRP specalist, not long after my deployment i requested to attend the Q-course in ft bragg and was accepted, after receaving my SF tab i was sent back to my unit(mind you that there are other schools and training involved that led up to this. my Mos went from 11B infantry to 18B Special Operations Weapons SGT, in 1986 i attended other training at ft bragg and and was excepted into Delta, and thats about all i can tell you about that. anyway in 94 i left the 1st SFOD-D and returned to normal Special operations duty with the SF and Rangers until my Retirement in 05, below is the breakdown in general of the difference between Rangers and SF. Army Rangers are a highly trained light infantry force that can be deployed in under 18 hours anywhere in the world thier specialized training allows them to be deployed in a conventional wartime tactics and against special operations targets, much of the training is somewhat simular to Special forces (e.g jump qualified, night&day land navigation skills, motivation, target interdiction, and various other things) they also work in some capacity with SF normaly in a reinforcement role should the need arise. the Special Forces training is more geared towards small 6 to 12 man groups that can operate in any country in the world with little or no support although most all of them are formerly Rangers who have gone on to SF,much like myself, thier training is more extensive and far exceeds those of the Rangers, they are more specilized in working with the indigionous population. Special Forces has five primary missions: Foreign Internal Defense, Unconventional Warfare, Special Reconnaissance, Direct Action and Counter-Terrorism. Because of these missions Special Forces is employed during peacetime, conflict, and war. all SF teams have presonnel that also speak the language of the country in wich they are in the rangers do not. while there is a lot of information between the differences of these two unit that i could give you i think it would probably bore you to death so i will save you the agony of any more, just remember they are both Special Operations units the Rangers wear a Tan beret while the SF wear a Green and although thier missions do differ from one another they are all Great soldiers doing what other units cannot. i hope this has helped in some way.

A Green beret is a soldier with 5 mos's ( that's five different jobs) Most soldiers have only 1 mos. The green beret team goes into a place or country and trains the people how to fight. from shooting techniques to first aid, to hand to hand combat. Like farmers to stand up for them selves.
The Ranger's are just soldiers that went to a school for 60 days to learn how to advance their skills as a soldier. The school really dose not teach you anything different but it is a real gut check. You are on the go with no food or sleep for days. The rangers have I guess you could say more heart. They will not give up. They get more money for training than the average soldier. Now that I m saying it the rangers are better trained than a regular soldier.
I was in the Army for 8 years and I have trained with both. They green beret I thought were more relaxed, they had smaller teams, and were really close with one another in their team, and were very smart. The rangers are like a regular soldier on steroids. But both are tough, and good at what they do.

special forces are trained in unconventional warfare.IE training local people to fight ,giving medical aide to them, and improving sanitation and other quality of life issues.they also have the mission of small unit raiders.such as destroying bridges or roads.high value prisoner snatches.and other guerrilla tactics.
rangers are a more highly trained infantry unit that is made up the same as a regular inf platoon or company.rangers are trained to seize targets such as airfields and other bases.long range reconnaissance is also a ranger specialty. ranger school is 63 days long and you learn a lot.it makes you a better soldier.
remember RANGERS LEAD THE WAY
