Theres no one reason why people do drugs, and everyone knows its not smart and it hurts you in the long run. The big reality though is what hurts more a child getting sexually abused everyday of their life until they are 18 or a kid that starts smoking weed at thirteen. Why do you think people do drugs? Because things like getting sexually abused happen and they want to do anything they can to get away from it and forget about it. For every person that is a drug addict there is a reason why they became a drug addict hiding deep down inside. Its not an excuse but it is THEIR escape.

in attending naranon meetings (these are for the family or friends of drug addicts) I learned that most people who indulge in drugs have something missing in themselves. They are mentally or emotionally ill and seek to find euphoria and escape in the high from drinking or drugging, instead of dealing with life and problems, they HIDE in a "bottle" or needle, what ever the case may be.
There is research going on that suggests that genes might have something to do with a condition making people prone to addiction, more so than others.
I beleive that I could be an alcoholic, as I have parents and grandparents that were alcoholics.
Thusly because I hate the feeling of being out of control of myself so much, I stay away from drinking pretty much altogether.
I hope that clears things up for you!

Peer pressure is a main factor. Another one is curiosity - what will happen if I take this? Some people take drugs to get away from a reality they feel they cannot handle. Others take drugs to try to kill themselves.

People do drugs to try and numb their feelings, and also people who get addicted to drugs have some kind of imbalance in their brain, and believe it or not being a drug addict is a disease. If you do some research on it you will find that it is a disease, so please don't say these people are stupid.

I am a procrastinator.
Hard work pays off in the long run. Procrastination pays off right now.
I imagine drugs are the same way -- quick reward now, downside comes later.

what drugs are you referring too. Drugs do many things..sooth a sore throat, get rid of a headache, help a constipated person losen his or her bowls. So drugs have helped sooth the ailments of many for hundreds of years. Dont be mad at drugs. Be mad at yourself for posing such a question.

Totally agree with you.Why would any decent human being want to cause that much harm to themselves. If they shiver at the sign of suicide of one of their family or friends etc, then do they actually realise that they are slowly killing themselves?

It's fine if you don't, but don't be one of those people. I'm not asking you why you don't.
