Well, I'm a stamp collector, and I'm not gay! I know hundreds of stamp collectors, and maybe 10% are gay, about the same as the rest of the population. It's a great hobby, and lots of interesting people collect stamps - I personally know a writer for CBS Radio, a bio-medical researcher, a retired World Bank executive, a TV actor, a folk singer, a lot of teachers and college professors, a professional athlete, some medical doctors, etc. It's got nothing to do with sexual orientation. Stamp collectors on the average have more curiosity about the world than other people, which is why I enjoy their company so much - gay or straight, they are just interesting people!

Stamp collecting could only be gay if two men did it while having sex. Personally I don't think stamp collecting and sex (homosexual or heterosexual) combine well, I think each would distract you from the other, and getting stamps sweaty is not generally a good idea.
The word 'gay' does not mean 'effeminate'. There are plenty of big, muscular, hairy men who hunt, plays sports, work out, are in the military, and also happen to be gay. (If you don't believe me, there are plenty of pictures of them on the Internet.)
