Provide no context and poor translation and you will successfully convince those who need little convincing that Islam is anything but peaceful...
But the same God sent the Torah, the Bible, and the Qur'an - no matter how much you want to deny it!
Holy Qur'an, Chapter 2, Verse 256 states:
Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.
There's also a saying in Islam that the taking of one innocent life is like the killing of all humanity... The fact is that the root of the word Islam means 'peace.' The Arabic word salaam has the same root s-l-m and notice how that mirrors the Hebrew word for peace 'shalom' also s-l-m...
We would do better to bridge our understanding instead of fostering hate - we have enough of that in this world!

Yes this is in the Quran... Islam itself means to submit... it's goal is to have all nations under it's flag, by force... you choose Allah or death...
NOTE TO MUSLIMS: I am not calling you a terrorist, I believe that there are many peacefull Muslims, but that is Allah's word, you cannot deny that... this is why I cannot follow Islam.
Here is another...
"The punishment ofd those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief throughout the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter."- Surah 5:33, the Quran...
This is why their will probably never be a lasting peace in the Mis East, until Jesus comes back...

The word 'fight' doesn't necessarily mean with swords. My impression is that Muslims are peace-loving, as are all truly human beings.
Ignorance is not bliss.
Juan Cole, a Middle East expert, has a series of Koran quotes on his Informed Comment blog (great blog, well worth keeping up with).
It's called peace and love in the Koran. See the URL in Source.

Do a search in the Bible on the word KILL and you will be surprised how many times it is used.
Like a typical propagandist you take out the verses that talk about warfare, which are a very small percentage of the verses of the Quran and distort the overwhelming message of peace in the Quran.
What about these verses:
Quran 2:190 "FIght those who fight with you, but do not attack them first. Allah does not love those who cross the limits!!
Quran 5:32 " Killing one innocent person is as if killing all of humanity.... saving one innocent life is as if saving all of humanity.. "
Quran 10:99 "IF Allah willed it, ALL NATIONS OF THE WORLD would be Muslim. Would you THEN USE FORCE to convert?"
The above verses show the other side of the issue. People with agendas show only one part.
If I had a vedeo camera which was recording a street brawl between two people, in which person A attacks and beats up person B. After taking much beating, person B hits back, and I only record person B beating up person A and show you that video, you will swear that B was the aggressor.
The same situation exists with the Quran. Our Prophet was not a warrior for the first fifty three years of his life. Warriors begin to fight young. His first battle was after he was fifty three years old and he lived to be only sixty three. Why did a warrior begin his career so late? ASK YOURSELF...
Because the Prophet was FORTY when he began to teach monotheism to his people. They were avowed polytheists, who had 360 gods, one for each day of the lunar calendar. They began to react violently to his teaching about the ONE LORD.
For thirteen years the Arabs of Mecca attacked, besieged, killed Muslims, robbed them of their homes and businesses and forced them to abandon their homes and migrate. THEN and ONLY THEN the first fight took place. THEN and ONLY THEN the verses to FIGHT BACK against the abusers came fast and furious. The Muslims were a rag tag group of weak men. Many were slaves, most were women, who had no desire to fight the powerful and violent Arab establishment of that time. A lot of coaxing had to take place to turn these weak men to fight back for their rights and for a place in society.
Those who wish to distort reality do so as you are doing, either due to your ignorance or knowingly.
BE FAIR!!!

The quran(Koran) is false doctrine and a lie . It was written to lead man away from the truth . There is no love when murder occurs . Murder is murder . Thou shalt not murder ! God's Word is final . Exodus 20:3 . You will know the true nature of your god on judgement day . John 8:44 . Matthew 12:36-37 . Revelation 21:8 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved .

I read the the stupid book it's so obvious it was mans concept. I tell you this follow this dead god and you will all perish. and good rid dens too. One thing interested me though, and that was it mentioned Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary and since the Koran follows the 5 books of Moses (known as the Torah), why are you people so stupid and blind? That's why in the middle east they try to keep their children and women illiterate. You better wake up soon. I promise their are no Genies or virgins waiting for you in paradise. Idiots!

No, the Koran is not a book of peace.
Islam is not a religion of peace.
Thank you for pointing these out, and I would suggest that everyone copy and paste this stuff into a notepad or something, because chances are this question will, unfortunately, be removed.
But I do thank you for posting it.

I'm with you, the Qur'an is a horrendously violent book.
But really, it's about the same with the Christian Bible too:
Genesis 22:10 - And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
Genesis 38:7 - And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
Exodus 12:29 - At midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.
Exodus 15:3 - The LORD is a man of war.
Exodus 22:24 - And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
Exodus 32:27 - Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side ... and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.
Leviticus 26:16 - I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
Numbers 31:15-19 - And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? ... Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
Deuteronomy 3:6 - And we utterly destroyed them, ... utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.
Deuteronomy 13:15 - Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.
Deuteronomy 32:24 - They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.
Joshua 6:21 - And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ***, with the edge of the sword.
Judges 15:4-5 - And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails. And when he had set the brands on fire, he let them go.
1 Samuel 6:19 - And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.
1 Samuel 18:27 - Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
2 Kings 2:23-24 - As he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
2 Chronicles 15:13 - As he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
Psalms 136:10 - To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Isaiah 34:6 - The sword of the LORD is filled with blood.
Jeremiah 48:10 - Cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.
Hebrews 9:22 - Almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
And that's just the appetizer.
The Bible has more violent verses in it than the Qur'an (853 to the Qur'an's 337). However, the Bible is longer than the Qur'an, so to be fair, we can calculate the violence/cruelty percentage: 2.74% of the Bible's verses are violent while 5.40% of the Qur'an's verses are violent. Of course, this doesn't account for the fact that some verses are more violent than others... So maybe if you took that into account, the Bible would be more violent.
If you don't like violence, I hope you're an atheist or a Buddhist (or go find another non-violent religion—I just can't think of any major religions at the moment that -aren't- violent).

Many people would rather except what they hear on tv than find out the truth. The United States likes to say that diversity is what we need, unfortunately some of the diverse are taught no tollerance for those unlike themselves.
