"Potty training fears, often called toilet terrors, are common among toddlers and small children. Look at things from your child’s perspective. He is giving up the security of a diaper for a big, cold thing with a giant hole that might swallow him. Up until this point, your child has been able to go in his diaper. He didn’t have to control himself until a potty was available. He could go anytime and anywhere, knowing that someone would always be there to change his diaper. The idea of having to go to a specific location means he will have to stop what he’s doing to use the potty. To top it all off, he looses the warmth of his diaper and must now go potty naked where other people might be watching!"

Yes he is afraid to poop in the potty because I have a 3 year old and he is actually just now started actually pooping in the potty. He has been peeing in the potty for well over 6 months. He never wanted to use his little potty so he always used the big potty. So I didn't have his little potty out so about 2 or 3 months ago I decided to take his little potty out and see if he would start pooping in it. He did start pooping in it and now he take the top of his little potty and puts it on the big potty. So now he pretty much potty trained. He only wears diapers at bed time.

Having a BM usually has some type of discomfort associated with it due to muscle that have to contract. A lot of children associate having a BM with muscle contractions. (Mine use to run into the closet - he didn't like to grunt/push). Have a little patience. If he has his BM about the same time every day (lucky you), you can then put him on the pot and read, talk or distract him until he gets the hang of it.
Just remember Mom, there are very few high schoolers that can't use the potty.

some kids are afraid of the potty. Have him come into the bathroom when you have to go. Have him watch you, wave bye to the BM and flush it. Clap and carry on about what a big girl Mommy is. He'll get the point. Good luck

I'm a preschool teacher and I had a preschooler who had the same problem. As silly as it might sound..I told him his BM wanted to go with the other BM's to a party in the toilet. When he would go i his pants I told him his BM was sad that it didn't get to go to the party. It took a couple of weeks, but he finally got the idea. Make a huge deal when he does go in the toilet. Good luck

I have a girl so don't know a lot about potty training boys, but something you might think about is telling him what a great job he did when he went and tell him that's what he's supposed to do. Reward him with encouragement when he goes maybe he won't be afraid of it if your sounding positive all the time.

I work at a daycare and I've seen this with boys and girls. Many of the parents just give in and give a diaper or pull-up for BM only.

Does he have his own little potty or is he using the regular toilet?
I had trouble with mine until I bought an adapter and let him start using the regular toilet, once he did that he was fine.
Good luck.

Yep, he is scared. He may see his BM as part of himself and then you are flushing him away. It is totally normal. He is young. Don't pressure him. He will do it when he is ready.
