The wages sin pays is death, so when we die, we have paid for past sins committed. When those who have died are resurrected back to life on earth, they will be tested after the thousand years of Satan's imprisonment is over and he is let loose for a little while. Those who follow him will be put out of existance forever, along with Satan and his demons. Those who adhere to God's laws and prove faithful, will never be tested again and will live forever.

Sorry, no Amen from me to such law law...
Grace unto you and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
After we die is too late, for what follows this Death rider is hell: Revelation 6:8; And such a rider rode in on a horse called law, which is both source of sin and strength of sin's death sting, or the strong man we're to bind to spoil the hse of law: sin & death followed by hell, the hell of such endless law law which supposes eternal life follows Death. In a manner of speaking it does, but only if we die to the law, rather than by the law.
So there is biblically two deaths, a first death and a second death. Dying to the law is as becoming alive unto God(Grace). Such is followed by eternal life for you and all the KoG within you. Dying by the law is what happens if you don't die to the law. Such is followed by hell.
As for Jesus, of Jesus Christ, he notably brought division and not peace. It is Christ, of Jesus Christ, who is our peace, who abolished the law. Jesus was made under the law. Christ is the end of the law. So eternal salvation, eternal life thereof, is notably "through Jesus->Christ", in the C part of J->C. Hence we are called the body of "Christ" (not the body of Jesus); for in Christ there is no sin (no law = no sin = no death = no hell).
Sadly, many "Jesus" fanatics corrupt the simplicity in Christ.
Jesus: division and not peace
Christ: peace and not division
Jesus: made under the law
Christ: the end of the law
Jesus: sin imputation by law
Christ: no sin, when no law
Jesus: fulfilled the law: sinners all, all die
Christ: abolished the law(sin, death, hell)
To wit: that God (is light void of darkness) was in "Christ" reconciling the world unto himself, NOT imputing sins (2Cor 5).
Pst - note what the last "Amen" goes to:
The "grace" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

yes people can refrain from practicing sin.
they can not become sinless as in not having inherited sin but they can stop sinning as a practice.
Ex. A thief can stop stealing.
An adulterer can stop commiting adultery.
A man who lies with men, can stop lying with men.
Etcetera..
