This American knows that many Canadians like to refer to the US as "South of the Border."

Most Americans know very little about Canada, as you can tell from many of the answers you're getting. (I happen to have lived there for a year, and know a bit -- Windsor, Ontario.)

But then, most Americans are woefully ignorant of every other country.

Tragic, isn't it?

Less than we should, no doubt. But I'm reading a book set in Vancouver right now, and (co-incidentally) just finished watching the entire first season of 21 Jump Street, which was filmed in Vancouver. It really does sound like a marvelous place, especially since a recent issue of National Geographic had some things about the tides in and out of the straits there, which encourage incredible underwater life. And of course I have read various things about Canada over the years, especially about how much open space there is once you get a little past the southern border, and I'd love to take a summer tour if I had a car. I think I'll pass on the wintertime activities, however. I really, really want to go to the Calgary Stampede (rodeo) someday.

I have visited Montreal twice, Ontario and Toronto once each, and Windsor quite a few times, although mostly just to go to a terrific Chinese restaurant there when I was in college at Ann Arbor, Michigan. But I have always enjoyed my contacts with Canada, and with Canadians visiting down our way. My mother had cousins from Toronto, and I learned to add "eh" to the end of every sentence just to make them laugh. So, while I don't know much, what I do know I like.

That depends on the person. I have a friend who was born an raised in Calgary and later lived Vancouver. He's a pastor, speaks french and has a funny pronunciation of words like "garage" and "about". What I don't know about Canada, I could ask him.

He did show me a rather funny video put together by a guy named Peter Mansbridge, who I guess is the Canadian equivalent of Jay Leno. He went around asking Americans about Canada and most of the people were pretty clueless.

There are not any overseas militants, best folks lengthy eliminated from the dramas you reference. Even if we compiled all of the knowledge on who attacked who, while wherein and the way, there could be big holes. Indeed, if we followed the commonplace you propose, no landowner or govt could be respectable. Every inch of land has modified palms by way of violence routinely, I feel. Certainly too routinely to be certain who used to be the primary character to stake a declare. Instead, all we will do is attempt to agree on and make a approach that serves folks as good as feasible within the reward. To serve justice with out destroying really every body's lives. The "Native American" might want or wish a higher say within the govt of the Americas. This correct he has, each morally and actually. He needn't pursue a army coup (as your rhetoric could propose) however best end up extra persuasive and competitive politically. And you recognize your self, that despite the fact that my grandmother emigrated right here within the 20th century, her kids are simply as local because the "Native Americans," whose ancestors themselves as soon as immigrated and displaced non-human predators. The sort of legitimacy you envision does no longer exist. Our govt would and might very good be as respectable because it feasible for a human production to be. (It could NOT be, however that is a layout limitation.) Anything larger could must be a theocracy, a truly one with genuine dictates taken straight from the Creator himself.

I admit, very little. I know general geography and history, but not much on current events. I know there is a new leader, but I am ashamed I don't remember the name. I was in Montreal during the 1993 elections, and there was almost no coverage in the US of that either.

If there are any good news/information outlets, please let us know about them by adding details to your answer.

Thanks!

PS It is a beautiful country. I have been to Quebec, Montreal, Toronto and the maritime provinces. Iwish I were there now! It must be cooler there! (I am in NYC area.)

I dont have a neighbor to the north, but my next door neighbor just started her own business, and he dad recently died.

Oh yes Canada.

Who cares, anyways. Well they have a pretty decent social health program going, overall, from what I hear from actual Canadians.

I also know that their song starts with "Oh CANADA!!"

And also that the Montreal Canadiens SUCK. LOL!

I know very little about our neighbors in the North. I've been there a few times and was very impressed with how clean your cities are! I've found Canadians to be very friendly.

Sorry, but I really don't care what you think of us.
