In the Bible, there is a story of the rich person who wanted to go to heaven and asked Jesus about how he could go there. Jesus replied that he needed to sell his possessions and give it to the poor. While it is the only time he asked anyone this in the Bible, his point was that He wanted to know that a person would not have any priorities in his life over God.

Could you do the same? How can we get to that point in our relationship with God?

It is a given. Christ asks us to give everything we have---take up our cross and follow Him. Yes----He did and YES---I have. He is my all in all. For those of you who think I may be a few sandwiches shy a picnic---let me explain----He gave me a mind to learn with----two eyes to see with---two ears to hear with----a mouth to tell the wondrous story----and two hands to work with. How precious is the work He has given me to do. It is truly a gift from my Father who loves me. If you truly love the work you do---you never work a day in your life. And I cannot help but thank Him for His gift and for the opportunity to return His favor. Thanks for asking. It was as simple as surrendering what we were and reaching for something more and taking it in faith. For there is no other way to the Father except through Christ. And YES I DO believe that. (And for you skeptics---NO I am not on medication.) ;-)

I would like to say an emphatic "Yes!", but you know what...I'd probably hesitate and say, "Really? Everything?" It's that whole struggle between the spirit and flesh. My spirit is willing, but the flesh that is so accustomed to the temporal pleasures of this world hesitates. I think what it comes down to is surrender. You must surrender your life completely before you are ready and can instead leave everything behind and say, "Here I am Jesus, take all of me."

I would give everything up without thinking, except for love of my life, my husband. Possessions are things and things aren't that important and can be taken away in a minute! People need to realize that so they can focus on not buying everything but focusing on their families.

We may yet be asked, or required to do so. Especially if we get into a long, drawn out nuclear world war 3. Sounds tough, ha?

I already have...

Can't tell you how to make God the center of your life. The Holy Spirit has to come to you and you must receive that grace.

no, i couldn't do it. I tried but couldn't. I resolved that God wanted us to enjoy life.

I think the story was to show that when you are committed to something, anything, you are going to have to let something go. The rich man was too committed to his revenue streams.

Jesus certainly not mentioned that he's a God, he more often than not mentioned that he's the messenger of God. The guy who mentioned Jesus is God is paul. And this state-of-the-art day christianity is the christianity determined via paul.
