how do u ask a guy out without being sure they like u?

i like this guy but its like we r best friends so i dont kno if he likes me that way, and if i jus tell him out of the clear blue it could be occward and could ruin our friendship forever.

ask him if he wants to 'hang out' sometime, and if hes like Yeah and friend B can come along, than you can say well i was hoping it was just us.
When you two are out if he seems like he's into you , yay date. if not than you got to hang out with your friend.
