We'd much prefer a color from the green-blue-purple side of the color wheel.

Here's a link of the room (beagle included)

Usually we have this table runner that I got in Indonesia on the the coffee table (instead of wood glue and other construction type stuff--we just installed the bamboo floors)

I've found that Sherwin Williams site has over 1000 colors. If you go to http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp
you can find a color. If there's a particular one that you like, feel free to include the name or number.

(The paint we'll use will most likely be AFM Safecoat, but they don't have any colors on their website)

Thanks so much!

Go with a very light shade of purple.

Blues and purples have an unfortunate tendency to look grey in the afternoon and evening. Be sure and get a quart and try that first if you are not sure. Better to waste 1 quart than a gallon or 2. I personally prefer a pale peach color called Nostalgia White by Sherwin Williams. And Everclean paint is fabulous.

The use of color is also something very personal. It stimulates our senses, power our mood, and helps create a particular ambiance. How we respond to an individual color depends on our nature, extroverts tend to feel happy with bold colors, while introverts prefer more passive colors.

Through using specific combinations of color, combined with a careful consideration of simple color schemes is often the most effective.

Try not to use more than one or two principal colors in a room, as well as a contrasting or balancing tone. The best way to choose a background color for the room is to trial with a palette of different shades and tones, in combination with the color and textures of the furniture and materials. Remember the general color schemes of a home have to be in agreement. The walls define the space in a room, while the colors, to a large degree, define the mood.

Colored light, furnishing materials, and structural proportions, we can create a home that is welcoming, helpful, and comfortable. Walls are similar to background music: each color tone is like a musical note can create a pleasant-sounding harmony while others grate with each other.

The color with which we surround ourselves will without doubt have an effect on us, and so it is important to feel comfortable with our choice. A discussion with a professional color consultant can help to decide individual needs and select appropriate color.

Colors can be divided into three main groups: those that stimulate and uplift, those that relax and calm, and those that provide harmony or balance. So, having taken a number of things into thought when decorating a room, such as the size of the space, the amount of light, the function if the room, and the style and mood we wish to create, we finally, and most importantly, need to consider the needs of the people who use it.

I would go with a deep navy or royal blue. It looks like the room has a lot of natural light, so I don't think it will make it feel small. I think it will make it "cozy". Sometimes people feel that painting a smaller room with a dark color isn't the best idea. If this is your case, I suggest a light cream, similar to the sofa. It will go with everything. You can "punch" up the room by adding color, like with your table runner or fun throw pillows.

Oh, and your dog is super cute!

I like the lightest blue stripe on your rug, and it would look fabulous with some curtains a shade of the pink in the table runner pic. You could even use a second shade of blue as an accent color - lighter if you paint it on the ceiling, or darker if you want to emphasize a particular wall.

Pick a blue that suits the area rug that you already have. It looks like it is either new or in almost new condition, so I don't believe you will be getting rid of it. Try some type of red or cream. They will both go well. In other words..spice it up use 2 of the 3 above mentioned colors.

I like to pull from an accent color already in the room (ie. rug). Blue, Periwinkle & Lavendar are very popular now.
You could also use a medium beige. It would add warmth to the room. It would play off the neutral in the sofa's and make the blue's in the room stand out.

If it's a small room, go for a light colour because that makes the room look bigger but if it's big you can do what you like. Other than that, it's just your preference, really.
If the general vote on here was to paint it pink and yellow, would you do it? No. You'd make up your own mind...
