Men should always pay on dates whether it is the first or the thritieth it doesnt matter. Unless of course your girlfriend is someone who absolutely wants to go dutch. But if it is the first date then in order to make a great first impression then the guy should pay.

If you two are friends, and agree to split the bill then go for it. If you're taking someone out for the first time, and you don't know her; it's best for the guy to pay the bill. Good luck, and have fun!!!

I think it's a good gesture to show that you are a gentleman and pay for the first date. Then afterwards you can consider going dutch. Remember the first date is like an "evaluation" sometimes you want to give a good impression

depends on the girl, and on how you two are paid.
If she's more liberal, and isn't known to be broke, sharing is fine (at least to me)
if shes more old fashioned, you pay.
If YOU ask HER out and go to a nicer place, YOU PAY, no matter what. if shes asks you to a nice place and its out of your price range.. tell her that. Say that this month you're low on cash and not sure you could pay for both of you, she may say oh well lets go someplace cheaper or dont worry about it ive got it covered.

I don't think that women should EXPECT for the men to pay. BUT, if I were to ask a woman out, I expect MYSELF to pay. But I also think that, even though the woman isn't expected to pay, it's just common courteousy, and respectful to at least make a gesture in offering to pay. If SHE asked you out, offer to pay, only after she makes the motion to pay. If she asked you out (especially to a nice/expensive place), and doesn't even give a hint of offering to pay. You pay, then kick her to the curb. You don't need that kind of person. And at least she can't say anything bad about you. ;-)
Many women are contradictory in terms. Alot are all about woman's lib, women can do things as well as a man can. And I would be the first to agree with that. But these same women also, EXPECT doors to be opened for them, wined and dined, chairs pulled out etc... For these women, if you can believe your just as good as men, why don't YOU open the doors for them, pull out the chairs, and pay for dinner. To be fair, NOT ALL women have double standards like this. I've even argued with dates about who's paying. But I've learned over the years, that if a woman is insistant, let it go. Pay next time. Now those are the women worth paying for. ;-)

Depends on how much it is, who chose the date, mutual agreements, other forms of payment, etc. Usually nice for the guy to pay...but I'm old fashioned.

I think it depends on whomever has the most amount of money. Usually the one who asked for the date should be the one to pay.

It's good to pay, or take action to pay. Unless she insists otherwise.. Most girls enjoy the guy paying..
