The world was predicted to end in 1844 on 'Jesus Second Coming' by SDA. False prophecy cuz it didnt happen right?
Ellen G. White (1827-1915) never held official title as the head of the SDA church, but was one of its founders and acknowledged spiritual leader. She claimed to have the "spirit of prophecy."
One of the unwritten stories in Adventist history is the influence that James White had in forming the ideas and sentences that came out under Ellen's name and pen. (Ellen's husband). James produced 4 published books, BUT they were indeed reprinted under another name, that of Ellen G. White, his wife, a few years after his death in 1881-but under the title The Great Controversy (1884). And this production was sold to the believers and the world as the work of Ellen and the angels.
Sunday is the 'mark of the beast' according to SDA. these are just a few things. and this is why ppl think SDA is a cult. so what do you think?

People believe that SDA's are a cult because of their unconventional teachings on Bible doctrine. However, you have to look at what can be proved..I am not a seventh day adventist by the way..but I am a sabbatarian. The Bible never teaches a change in the Sabbath. The Catholic Church ..the apostate church is very clearing discribed in scripture of the early church and does this very thing..the melding of pagan practices with Biblical teaching. As well, there are the commandments and food laws, marriage laws and so forth. Many, not all, of modern day non-denominational and organized faith systems teach that we are no longer required to keep the commandments of God yet the epistiles and early church new testament writings emplore that we do so..including the Sabbath. So while I agree with SDA that they are a Bible believing (more so than alot of faith systems) I do have issue with Ellen G. Whites writings..I believe that it began as a pure gift and then perhaps later became corrupted by her own understanding. From what I know though she never claimed to be a prophetess. I've read a cupple of biographies on her and her life, thinking of writing a made for T.V. movie script about her..and from what I see..the two renderigns of her from history and then the opposing anti-sda faction don't coincide very well. All these accusations are speculations. However, I do take issue with some of her writings..her late writings..but I'm still studying to see what is Biblically principled and what appears to be leanign on her own understanding. So...I dunno. I don't believe its a cult though. They believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Don't believe every hate mongering website that you visit. They maybe should sorta search their eye for the mote first and then nit pic the splinter elsewhere. Love in Christ, ~J~ <><

Actually, cult means "a cohesive group of people (often a relatively small and recently founded religioous movement) devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture or society considers to be far outside the mainstream." So, no, not all religions are cults, because there are about 1 billion Christians and a billion Muslems and a whole lot of others, so if anything, Atheism is a cult.
But with that definition, yes, Seventh Day Adventist could be considered a cult. But because cult is used pejorativley, it isn't always a good idea to go around labeling groups as "cults."

HMMM...so let me get this straight. You ask if Seventh Day Adventist are a cult. Then you present bits and pieces of their beliefs without any detail and a CLAIM that the spiritual leader of the movement plagiarized(which still doesnt address if anything she wrote was or was not biblically correct). And after that slanted presentation of SDA beliefs then you ask if its a cult. Yea ok. My turn.
The catholic church - obey the orders of a man in position of pope even though historical popes have been shown to be corrupt, elevated Mary and random Saints to worship status and a go between to God, made a system that forced men and women not to get married if they want to be in a leadership position, charged members to have their sins forgiven, charged members who came from miles and miles to see the relics of dead body parts of their so called Saints, murdered those who question their authority, deprived people from even reading the bible in the dark ages. Yet the Catholic Church is not considered a cult?
Non Adventist Protestants- Observe the ancient holy day dedicated to the pagan sun god as their sabbath which they got from the before mentioned Catholic church, believe the commandments are a pick and choose what is convenient to follow obligation, doctrinally observe Saturnelli(celebration of the Winter Solstice which used to be a sex and drinking based festival but is now called Christmas) and the festival of the goddess of fertility Eastre( Easter to us now-where did you think the rabbits and eggs come from), and believe in the concept of the rapture which is a hodgepodge of biblical verses pieced together by some minister in the 19th century as what might happen at the end but is so flawed its ridiculous, ignore the biblical teachings on dress, homosexuality(some), diet, and jewelry. Are protestants a cult?
If your definition of a cult is based on size then Jesus and disciples would be a cult in your eye.
If your definition of a cult is based on adherence to biblical principles then the Adventist church is about as noncult as it gets.

Several scholars have classified the Seventh Day Adventist as a cult based upon their odd founders, and their bizarre and failed prophesies. However, other that their worship on Saturday, their current followers seem to be pretty normal Christians. They read the Bible, the put their faith in the work of Jesus Christ, the follow the commandments, and live holy lives. It comes down to the question that their origins may have be cult-type but they're pretty normal Christians now.

No I do not believe Seventh-day Adventism is a cult. this information dosen't really give a lot of support for it being one either. I'm a Seventh-day Adventist and we are not a cult for the last time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just because our beliefs don' t agree with the traditonal teachings of Christianity such as what day to worship, not eating pork, etc. We believe there is ONE GOD and that Jesus was sent to save the world from damnation. Just because we're different don't automatically claim us a cult.

properly for starters you have no longer committed the unpardonable sin. the undeniable fact which you're apprehensive which you would be breaking the sabbath shows that the Holy spirit keeps to be to be working on your life. The unpardonable sin is grieving away the Holy spirit and now no longer paying interest to him. you're positively coming up on your relationship with God so in keeping with possibility an thought is while you're in a serving form of job then you fairly can donate the $ earned on the Sabbath between now and your polishing off date. (in case you opt for for to artwork) you would be ending besides so if it were me on your function, i might deplete my ill go away :O) Pray and God will help. the widespread time i determined to maintain the Sabbath i went for a job at a clean company, there have been 40 positions and weekend artwork became as quickly as a ought to. interior the interview i suggested i cant artwork on the Sabbath and that they suggested it will be a situation. 2 weeks later i offered a cellular call to artwork. I grew to advance into up thinking i might see a sort of recent starters, yet precise contracts have been taken from the enterprise so as that they'd no longer placed everybody on. the objective i obtained the job became (God) considering somebody interior that 2 weeks had companion and little ones matters and end. So i replaced him and the hours have been from Monday to Friday. WHAT A BLESSING, ONE guy or woman GIVEN a job FROM 40

I think you've already answered it. A lot of people think that Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult because they're always predicting the end of the world and even though it looks like it's mighty close - it hasn't happened on any of the dates they've predicted.

my definition of a cult
1) People follow blindly the beliefs of leadership w/o questioning
their motivation
2) People give money/time to the cause without questioning why
they are doing it.
So yes SDA is a cult as well as most churches including the Catholic Church, the Republican Party, and Amway.
