I have found that it is difficult to find Mizpah Coins in stores lately, have they lost their popularity? And what religion does it originate from?

It originates from the Hebrew Mizpah

Gen 31:48-50 48 And Laban said, “This heap is a witness between you and me this day.” Therefore its name was called Galeed, 49 also Mizpah,[a] because he said, “May the LORD watch between you and me when we are absent one from another. 50 If you afflict my daughters, or if you take other wives besides my daughters, although no man is with us—see, God is witness between you and me!”

The coin says "May the Lord watch between you and me when we are apart from eachother" and I think it lost some popularity when people looked it up and saw it wasnt the parting of dear friends but enemies.

All references to the word "mizpah" that I can find are in Hebrew, so I would guess it's a Jewish thing.
