Being able to make eye contact is an asset as it makes you come across as self-confident. Everyone's comfort level with eye contact differs, yet there is hope for those who are uncomfortable with making eye contact as it a behavior which you can learn. In the beginning you will be very uncomfortable, but each time you make eye contact the discomfort will be less. Eventually you will have little or no discomfort in this practice. Just hang in there and keep at it.

Remember, if you make direct eye contact in public places with those you do not know, a simple nod of the head in greeting both acknowledges and dismisses the person who you made eye contact with. So relax, no further communication is necessary.

eye contact comes naturally for some people, but for some of us we have to try real hard to make it. people put emphasis on eye contact because they believe when you look your interviewer in the eyes it says alot about you and your character. some people see it has a sign of honesty.

To me specifically, no, not natural. In my youth I would tell white lies, and could not look in someones eyes. I somehow felt it was wrong. But, in my adult days, I have learned to look at people in the eyes, you can tell a lot about a person from where their eyes wander to.

Check out NLP (neural linguistic programming). There are quadrants that tell if a person is telling the truth or not, if they are searching their memory or not.

First clue, an honest person does look you in the eyes. Anyone that really wants your attention will. So, I practice looking in peoples eyes, frequently during a conversation. After practicing, I have changed my bad habit into a good habit.

It depends I think. Most times I do but never really notice or thought about it much lol. However, in some countries it is not acceptable- so while it's okay in one country in another it can give the wrong message . In some Asian countries, they think it's a invitation !! sheesh. Regarding interviews, it's probably normal as not only do they interview you to see how efficiently you respond but they also can find out from your body language about your character and etiquette. Just look back confidently in a interview but not over dominantly.

Eye contact speaks of one's confidence and accepting the reality. It is also about being straight forward. Yes it comes naturally to me. It also helps a lot in office when boss is actually quizzing me on some point...he stares into my eyes and i stare him back ....the message is clear, no talk after that. It helps me a lot come out of tricky situations..Oh these offices and boss's questions sometimes drive me mad. But do'nt worry, we all learn and though i cannot claim to be an expert at it, i am still improving.

I tend to avoid eye contact until I know the other person better. Too much (personal) information comes from even casual eye contact, and can be a little discomfiting (for me).

It depends. Usually it comes naturally, but if someone is particularly creepy to me, then I have trouble maintaining eye contact and I have to make an effort to do so.

Making eye contact is a symbol of not being afraid and being truthful and shows respect. It is a surefire way of getting a job, because they will know that you will come to them and look them in the eyes to tell them whatever.
