Here's the real story.

Go buy two bottles, one for about $10 (like Smirnoff) and then spend as much as you like on the other. Go home and place both bottles in the freezer overnight. The next day have someone ELSE bring you a shot of each and see if you can tell which is the average bottle and which is the expsensive one.

The price of the expensive bottle says you can't. Vodka, by nature, is supposed to be flavorLESS so when consumed cold (like you are supposed to) there should really be no difference between any average bottle. I can't believe when I see some chick at a bar step up and order a Grey Goose Cosmo. Who the hell cares what vodka you use??!!! How are you even going to know by the time there are 4 other ingredients in it.

I've seen a deal on TV where 10 GG "aficionados" were all told to pick out their brand. They nearly all failed when the vodka was straight and when they made cosmos from it, 100% failed.

I suggest Grey Goose or Belvedere if you wanna go all out, but a great substitute for both is IceBerg, it is rated amongst the best but it cost a lot less. It is only found at Fine Liquor stores or Wine Stores. The funny thing is that most ppl can't tell the difference between the good brands and the cheap ones....I buy Grey Goose bottles and fill them up with cheap vodka and no ever knows the difference and I entertain daily. You are paying for the bottle in the store and not the vodka, so save yourself some money. Also, Skyy is great as well as Smirnoff, both affordable.

the difference between expensive vodka and cheap vodka is usually most noticable the next day.

I'm a huge fan of Tito's (distilled in Austin, TX can be tought to find). it's the purest distilled spirit ever tested by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

I agree with the Smirnoff comparison, I won't touch anything on a lower shelf.

Also, in the blue bottle: Skyy. Amazing. Simply amazing. Clean and light as rain. Won't hurt you one single bit in the morning, and is mid range priced...about the same price as Smirnoff.
