If you were a Christian, and believed in the Christian god, and then were shown, at length, why the bible is false, how would your perception of "god" change? Now, if you can accept the FACT that the bible, for example, is false, and that we know its shady origins, and that you cannot accept it as a reliable spiritual guide... (I'm saying IF you can, which takes time, but you can learn these things...)

Then what reasons would you have for believing in God? Your very concept of god comes from people telling you god exists. You didn't "feel" god when you were born. You may have felt something, perhaps comfortable, perhaps what you might call friendly, and/or even mystical, but you didn't know what it was.

God is a man made concept. And you've been told all your life that god is real. But what if you discovered, as I mentioned above, that the SOURCE of the god myth was disproven? If you no longer had a fear of hell, or of the damnation that that false book promised, what reason would you have to believe in god?

If science showed the glaring inconsistencies of religious beliefs, and if history showed the progression of religious beliefs, from the earliest cults, to today's religious powerhouses, and how they are all simply revisions of one another, what reason would you have to believe in that god?

So the thing is, if you have no reason whatsoever to believe in a god, and you won't be punished for not doing so (and we know this), why bother disproving him? Do you spend time disproving Santa Claus? Or does your rational mind tell you the truth, and you're content knowing that whether you're naughty or nice... he's still not coming down your chimney...

One might think that it provides them a more realistic, and therefore a stronger platform to base their life around. Additionally, it would allow someone to disregard the moral standards set forth by God [such as the anit-homosexuality stance] and it would be a lot simpler for someone who is struggling with these issue to just simplify their life and forget God.

In regards to believing that there is a God, there are reasons to believe in it but there is no proof. This is so we can have faith. Now I know that this comes off like a perfect system to trick everyone, but that allows faith to occur [which fits into the overall picture - if you're LDS at least].

If your heart is seeking hell, then you can come up with all the compelling reasons you want. But there is NO reason to believe that there is no God

Sure, I think there are lots of reasons not to believe in God. Human misery and suffering, death of innocent people, human capacity for evil, and of course, the biggie, no evidence that there is a God, at least no empirical evidence.
But for me, the reasons to believe in God are more compelling than the reasons not to.

No, in fact this is what Romans 1 verse 19-20 says

For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts. From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see His invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.

In the absence of any compelling reason "to" believe there is a God I guess...

That question is ***-backwards and meaningless. It is the same thing as asking whether there is any compelling reason to NOT BELIEVE in Santa Claus... or unicorns... or the bogeyman... or Leprechauns... etc.

To reframe you question in a MEANINGFUL fashion, you need to ask whether there is any compelling reason to BELIEVE in god.

The answer is no.
