I have created a cd that I want to publish, I want to take it to a company so they can copyright it and reserve it and whatever they have to do, so they can put it in the market so people can buy it. Where am i supposed to go? What are the steps I should follow? Thank you all.

I cannot choose a best answer because both are just half and half, they are both great answers and i just cannot choose one because one had important info that the other one didnt have but the one that didnt have had important info that the other one didn't have so, it's a fair tie.

To begin with, Copyrighting it is your responsibility. Go to the below link and get educated.

http://www.copyright.gov/

Once you have that taken care of then you will need to find someone willing to buy what you are selling. If its a game you need a publisher (sony, microsoft, etc) If its a book you need an agent who will shop you to various publishers. If you can't find a buyer you can self publish.

Here is a decent article on self publishing

The article is written for books but the basic concepts apply. You could also just burn a few hundred cd's and put them on Ebay to check demand.

You can do this at the US Copyright Office – see the last 2 links in the source box. The application is fairly simple & the cost is $45 per application.

Despite what others state, a "poor man's" copyright is NOT the same as registering it. Here's what the US Copyright Office has to say:

"The practice of sending a copy of your own work to yourself is sometimes called a 'poor man’s copyright.' There is no provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is not a substitute for registration."
