I have several videos that I want to post online but they are over 200KB, I heard that avi makes them shorter is this true?

If you are putting this on the web, I suggest using something like http://www.camstudio.org to convert the file from .AVI to .SWF format. Much smaller(around 80% smaller) and web friendly. The downside is that people who view your site will need shockwave/Flash and it may take a few minutes to convert depending on the size of the .AVI.

Once it's installed run SWF Producer, choose file, point to your avi file, wait for it to load (can take a minute or two depending on file size) and then choose "Convert to SWF."

hmmm....what do you mean shrink the video??? well you can try windows movie maker or you can go to http://www.boilsoft.com/videosplitter and download a splitter which will keep the clarity but will split the video into how ever many parts...

When you shrink the size of a video you lose qualiti of a video, so the answer is no.

You might try importing the video file into powerpoint. Powerpoint compresses pictures and videos and it shouldn't affect quality. It's worth a shot.

that may make it a smaller file, but the only real way to make it smaller, is to re-encode the files with a lower quality setting.

not sure of any programs off the top of my head, but if you search for 'video encoders' i am sure you will find some

Most videos sold these days are of the permanent press variety with little or no shrinkage.
