Check the Animal Planet Site. There is a section that gives some general points on different breed types. But like kids, they all have there own personality. Try a shelter and tell them what you are looking for. They usually do behavior assesment and can point you toward one that might work.
My hubbie is a driver too, make sure his company is ok with pets, some don't like it.

Actually, it would take a very sedate Boston Terrier to adjust to the life of a truck dog... I agree that they can adapt to almost anything, but they *do* need exercise (and plenty of it) or they tend to get quite overweight. They are also highly intelligent dogs that need *a lot* of mental stimulus of stay happy and healthy.
I knew a Bossie truck-dog once... He was bored, destructive, and even a little neurotic from being cooped up all of the time. Then, one day, when they had him tied to the truck while eating at a truck stop, he was stolen. They eventually found him, but could not prove that he was theirs. (The dog obviously preferred his new home with a yard and lots of people to play with.)
I would go with a dog that is *much* more comfortable with being basically motionless for long periods of time. Check out the other suggestions and see if anything fits your criteria.

My mother in law has five poodles, and they are mainly house dogs. The only real exercise they get is running around the house and maybe the yard for a few minutes each day. They are perfectly healthy with this schedule. FYI, three of them are toy poodles, and two are teacup poodles. The teacup may be a better choice for you, as they take up less room and don't tend to need as much exercise. They really aren't that yippy, either.

I have no dought that you should get a Boston Terrier. Check them out and tell me if I am wrong! I have had many and they are the best dogs ever. They are low maintenance and great companions. They can be hyper , but they will adapt themselves to your activity level and they are extremely smart!

A miniature dachshund would be great. They only exercise if you want them to go on a walk or something. Otherwise, they are pretty calm. But make sure it's a mini.

Get him a stuffed one; call it "Ralph"- & tell your husband to keep it in the cab of his truck. He'll have all the company he needs- & the best female "magnet" he could ask for (Oops!- Shouldn't have told you THAT...).
