besides trying to disprove God as the Creator???
I see people on here so fanatical about it, therefore I ask, does it have some profound affect on your day to day life or something or do you just use it to reinforce your beliefs of God not existing???

The impact changes all the time. It's evolving.

Well first, I don't have to believe in Evolution, since it is a fact. (and before you start with that brainless statement of "but it's a theory, not a fact", read the first link, it explains how Evolution is a theory AND a fact at the same time. Yes that happens in Science. Look at Gravity for example.)

Secondly I don't have to disprove the existence of god, since it doesn't exist. The burden of proof is upon those that say it exists. Not the other way around. You really should look up words like "theory" and "proof" before you post here you know...

As for having a profound EFFECT (note the correct spelling) I work in the realm of Science. Trust me, Evolution is a cornerstone of biology and therefore, medical science as well. It afects ALL of our lives. Even yours whether you choose to understand or stay ignorant.

It has a huge effect on my day to day life. I look at people for who they are, rather than what color they are (evolution suggests that skin color is an adaptation to weather and climate- not a symbol of social superiority or inferiority as religion would). I am not affected by the religious expectations on me, nor do I judge people whose beliefs differ from my own- unless they like to hurt people with thier beliefs- which usually makes me think of them as @$$holes. I don't favor one group of people over another simply because of their supposed history- I look more at why things ARE the way they are rather than who made it happen (if anyone).

Being an evolutionist does NOT make me an atheist. The creation story is shady even to MANY religious types. Being an atheist makes me an atheist. Evolution, however, COULD be used as an explination of HOW your god created man rather than blindly accepting that it was done in one day by some all powerful being- and that darwin was a satanist.

Being an Atheist has made me look at the fact that your Bible was written centuries ago by slaves. People who were opressed and told that it was because their god made them inferior- the only purpose in this life is to serve gods will? Or would that be the will of the ruling class? If the ruling class (take King James for example) felt necessary, they would rewrite as they saw fit (you would probably call it a mistranslation). Is this what you really want to base your life on, when there is so much physical evidence to suggest otherwise? I know I don't!

Being an Atheist and an Evolutionist has made me value my life for what its worth. It makes me realize that whether there is anything after this life or not, all I can really be certain of is right here and right now- and if I work hard enough, I can enjoy it.

I always had doubts about the creation account and I think anyone who uses common sense would. I struggled with it for decades as I was a Christian at one time.

Now that I see the overwhelming evidence of evolution, I know what really happened and it eases my mind, cause I'm the kind of guy that likes answers that make sense.

It strengthens my belief that there is no god like the ones people worship and knowing that this life may be all there is I appreciate every day for what it's worth.

I enjoy my life much more because of evolution.

Evolution does not assert the nonexistence of God. It never has, nor will it ever.

The religious alternative, however, has been trying to worm its way into secular acceptance, which most rational people find abhorent.

With this in mind, I think it is unfair to bring evolution up in this site order to evoke a Christian response. Not only is it obvious provoction, it's also secular, and therefore not on topic.

It should be understood that not all Christians believe Genesis to be scientifically sound ... they don't all think the Universe is under 10K years old, nor do they insist the earth is flat.

it does not effect me whatsoever. i still believe the same way i did before i learned about it (im atheist). frankly, it really doesnt bother me not knowing for sure how humans came to be. we are here now, and thats the only thing i really care about. however it does annoy me when people ask questions like " if we evolved form apes, why are there still apes?" when they clearly dont understand/havent learned the theory. i think people should take the time to actually learn a bit about the evolution theory, even if they really dont agree with it. it makes for a less-ignorant person and world. that being said i think evolutionist should also learn about the creationist theory.

It is reality. Reality has a profound impact on my day to day life.

It is nice to understand one tiny little thing in this universe of things we do not understand. It makes sense, and so other things in life make sense. You start to see all the little ways in which all living things are connected, and it is nice to feel connected to this whole planet. Knowledge is power. Having this little bit of knowledge about evolution helps us find other answers in medicine, crop production, pollutant free energy, etc.

The theory of evolution has no relevance whatsoever to the questions about God.

The importance of the theory of evolution is that it is the singlemost unifying idea in the biological sciences.

I only get 'fanatical' about it when people try to deny it or deny children access to the truth about it.

In my normal life, it has as much impact as knowing that E = mc2 or that the earth travels around sthe sun and not the other way around.

Very little.

Ah... another logical fallacy... I just love logical fallacies. This one is a 'Straw Man Argument'... a sub-fallacy of the 'Red Herring'. The person sets up a false premise (that evolution is aimed at trying to 'disprove God as the Creator'), and then making assertions as if the false premise were, in fact 'true'.

I like it better when Straw Men are set up more skillfully... this is so lame as to be laughable.

Lookee here, Buckwheat... evolution does not give a rats a$$ about God... neither does science, overall. All they seek to do is create a consistent explanatory frameworks for observed natural phenomena. An explanatory framework is called a 'theory', provided it has been shown to be consistent with evidence, makes predictions that have been verifiable through experiment and/or observation, and has survived the requisite peer scrutiny and debate... and has not been 'falsified'.

The Theory of Evolution is all of that... and has been for around 150 years. It IS falsifiable... but it has NEVER been falsified. All of the body of work in biology, genetics, and paleontology CONTINUE to conform with the theory, confirm it, bolster it and solidify it. There IS NO controversy regarding evolution within the scientific community. The only controversy is the phony PSEUDO-controversy that has been orchestrated by creationists to undermine science, which they see as the 'enemy' of religion.

Scientific theories are not just 'ideas', as the scientifically illiterate seem to regard them. Scientific theories provide an explanatory framework for observed facts. The theory of Evolution provides an explanatory framework for the OBSERVED FACT of changes to the genetic makeup of populations of organisms, over time. The mechanisms that has been identified... AND OBSERVED... to account for those changes are 'genetic drift' (statistical variations in allele frequency), and genetic mutations (random), operated on by 'natural selection' (NOT random). In other words, the non-random survival of randomly varying replicators.

So, evolution EXPLAINS facts... it does not INVENT facts... and its 'explanatory power' is unprecedented, so far as theories go.

Your mind is being turned to mush by professional liars who are trying to protect their business interests. They don't want you to KNOW anything... they don't want you to THINK... or even know HOW to think. This was well understood by important figures in religious history. This is why the early church destroyed all the 'tainted' (non-canonical) writings, which were in conflict with dogma... Greek philosophy, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, engineering... all the good stuff. By this means, Christianity dragged humanity directly into the Dark Ages.

Just to illustrate the point, let's see what Martin Luther, the 'father' of protestantism, had to say about 'reason' and secular knowledge:

"Reason must be deluded, blinded, and destroyed. Faith must trample underfoot all reason, sense, and understanding, and whatever it sees must be put out of sight and ... know nothing but the word of God." ~ Martin Luther

"Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has; it never comes to the aid of spiritual things, but -- more frequently than not -- struggles against the divine Word, treating with contempt all that emanates from God." ~ Martin Luther

"There is on earth among all dangers no more dangerous thing than a richly endowed and adroit reason... Reason must be deluded, blinded, and destroyed." ~ Martin Luther

"Reason should be destroyed in all Christians." ~ Martin Luther

Christianity is essentially a criminal business enterprise... in fact, it is the world's longest running and most successful Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) scam. The product they are selling is 'salvation'... and the 'pay plan' doesn't kick in until after you're dead. What a racket! FORTUNATELY, it only works on those who are gullible enough, and sufficiently lacking in critical thinking skills, to fall for it. UNfortunately, THAT accounts for about 62% of the population of the USA. (There are a lot more people who DON'T know how to think properly than there are people who DO know how to think properly.) That is why there are a lot more religious people in the USA than there are 'Free-thinkers'... including Atheists. Also, Christians are generally too dense to realize that proselytizing (spreading the 'good news') is a key element of the Christian MLM MARKETING PLAN, which was instituted after Christianity lost the political power that had previously allowed them to simply torture and kill anybody who did not comply. Now, they attempt to just pester people to death, through persistent obliviousness and obnoxiousness. If you stop to think about it, you will realize that Christians are very much like the Borg, on Star Trek Next Generation: "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile." I would not be surprised to learn the thoughts of Christianity provided the 'creative spark' for the Borg concept.

You are being lied to, misled, and manipulated by the very people with whom you have bestowed your trust. You are being PLAYED, to further the political power and contribute to the monetary gain of unconscionable vermin... and as such, YOU are are being used to help undermine your own country.

evolution doesn't prove or disprove a creator, einstein.

but it does effect my life, in that there are now a large number of medicines (and vaccines), particularly antibiotics, that have resulted directly from our knowledge of evolutionary processes.

Can your creationism claim any such concrete successes? Or does it just 'save souls'?
