Nirvana is a place, metaphorically speaking. It's more like you disappear. Reincarnation technically isn't a good thing. You have to experience negative feelings such as pain. Nirvana is when you go beyond that. To reach that state, you must meditate as much as you can, be good to others without sympathy(think about it, if you feel sympathy for someone, it's because you feel sorry for them, and they don't have what you have), let go of all feelings, and let go of desire. In addition, by meditating, you remember your past lives, and you figure out what is the purpose of life. Reaching nirvana is the goal of all Buddhists and technically, the resolution of life.
