If you like your hair, leave it alone. Highlights will dry it out and cause major damage if done to often. If you could see my hair, you wouldn't even think about highlights. :)

Maybe if you had brown hair with highlights but not brown highlights with fully black hair

I don't think curly hair looks good with highlights. It makes it look a little spotty. If you do insist on getting them, go to a salon. If you do it on yourself and you have curly, black hair, it will turn out disastrous.

proper layer highlights are better versatile because they offer the impact of being like finished head highlights at the same time as hair is down and educate little or no at the same time as hair is pulled up. hence , you get 2 seems for one. Highlights could add another dimension to it so why not? Try anything once, that's what I say. But get it done professionally though.
