2) Simple gold jewlery - earings/necklace
3) fun random things- any reccomomdations for unique presents?

I know to watch out for scams and such, now I'm wondering how much $ to expect to spend. $10 per gift, maybe?

*thanks in advance for your help!*

to be honest the priciest place you'll find the things you want is the grand bazaar so don't buy the first thing you see.
try to find the Kuru Kahveci Mehmet Efendi store where you can find the best turkish coffee for the cheapest price.
Kütahya Porcelain has some great collections of coffee cups for souvenirs.

The Spice Market (Egyptian Bazaar) is better for coffee pot and coffee (which you can take on the plane. The Grand Bazaar is fun for looking but very expensive. You'll find small gift items everywhere, so compare prices before buying. Also try the Arasta bazaar -just below the Blue Mosque. Also walk down the tram line from Divan Yolu on your way to the Spice Market -- lots of small shops. For 15 lira ($10), you can often get several small items. People seem to love the little coin purses -- don't pay more than one lira.

The entire thing is a scam. Turks would rather lose your business then give a fare price to a western women. I tried to buy Henna in the spice market and it cost double what it costs for Henna in Canada that is imported from India and the Middle East. Go to smaller shops out of the heavy tourist area and if possible bring someone Turkish. Seriously, no matter what you are going to get screwed but maybe not as badly outside the market.

coffee pot and coffee will cost about $10, (depends on how much coffee u'll buy, but try to find the pot outside the grand bazaar,it would be cheaper) gold earings will cost much,no doubt.. but u can buy simple earings for $25 i guess.. for about $10 u can buy little bags (made of carpet), hand made shirts (called Şile fabric i think)... good luck, there are lots of choices at the grand bazaar&places in Sultanahmet..

you're properly. Ankara is larger. yet human beings like mediterranean personality of Istanbul. Ankara is neat and tidy and as that it is not any longer somewhat proper for sweaty backpackers. also places of pastimes for turists are better like: seashore, favourite web pages, museums, previous city, previous homes, and so on. ideas that foreigners do not care about present day Turkish republic, neither do I, yet i love Anatolian spirit. Istanbul is likewise better like a melting pot, the position you will discover Turks, Kurds, Pakistanis, Persians, blacks, Russians, Gypsies, all variety of persons, at the same time as Ankara wouldn't have such countless non-Turks. also Istanbul has better prostitution, abdomen dance and evening golf equipment, at the same time as Ankara has a lot less. Istanbul is better lively and Ankara is way less lively.
