Generally MEN are better. No, not just a stereotypical answer....

Men are usually better at 'spatial awareness' and have a better grasp on the 'mechanics' of driving - not just the function.

We, men are more prone to making factual decisions - rather than basing an overtake or junction exit on 'does it FEEL right'.

Look at the workplace & history. Racing - ALL forms - predominantly MALE, taxis...male (may be security aspect though), delivery drivers...male (possible manual labour reasons).

And I hate to say it, when you see a low speed shunt (junctions / lights) there is normaly a woman wondering WHY it happened.

Women take less risks, but CAUSE accident by hesitation. Women drive at lower (not necessarily safer) speeds, less severe injuries.

Of the male & female drivers I know (not including myself) - I am at ease with MORE male than female drivers due to competency levels, and a greater understanding of 'the machine'...and a LOT less chatter & makeup distractions... :p

For safety, women. Perhaps it's the natural instinct of womankind to be careful, to nurture the human race, whereas men tend to go out to wars. I don't see many womendrivers sticking a forefinger up at other road-users or thumping out mad "music" on over-loudspeakers, that ego-trip behaviour seems to be a male thing.
For utility (including speed, efficiency, financing expenses and fines) men. Finance? because usually their wallets are thicker as well as their heads.
Mebbe someone in Answers can quote the figures for women/men driving test results, accident rates, annual mileages, vehicle types etc.?

I think some people are born with the ability to drive better. They seem to be one with the car or whatever they drive. Makes no difference what sex you are. Although I notice young women tail gate more. I like to down shift my truck and slow down really fast. No brake lights. It tends to make them back off. Oh and, yes I know its not a good thing to do, If I didn't do things because they aren't a good idea I would never have any fun. If they hit the back of my truck well then to bad. They shouldn't drive so close.

There is no difference between men and women drivers, it depends on the mental state of the person behind the wheel.

Although there are exceptions, I believe men for the most part are safer drivers, because they are not trying to put on makup and lipstick, and a miriad other things while they are driving. The other day I saw a womona trying to drive and rad a novel at the same time.

I believe men are better drivers as I think they are less distracted. I only know one good woman driver, but she's like a bloke with boobs!

I'm mini_prophet's sister and can vouch for his source! She's too busy looking at people's gardens to watch the road.

the ones that can drive and the ones that can't arent gender controlled, attitude may have something to do with it though you get as many nervous men as wonen and it's nervous driver or over confident drivers cause accidents -thinking you can make the light is probably worse than breaking early and slow

It's not gender related. It's an individual thing. All kinds of factors go into making someone a good driver, and chromosomes have nothing to do with it!

Men are the best and worst at driving - it's been tested before. We make up the extremes, because society has traditionally flung us off in any and every direction possible, so we achieve.

Women of course, how many insurance companies do you know of who offer discount insurance for men or will only insure men. Woman are a much safer bet! ;-)
