how to run divx files on a dvd player?

I have a Divx-Xvid compatible dvd player (the company is Legend) which I have just bought recently. I burnt a CD with a divx sample video but it can't play it. The same with xvid. It plays the audio for the first second before returning back to the menu. I have fiddled with the remote etc, but it doesnt seem to help.

divx has several different versions.depending on ur player's ability of which version it can play , u r limited to it.
