I have a 7 month old lab/mix that will poop a very big solid poop and then will poop again an hour later after eating, once again a lot and solid. He poops like 4 or 5 times a day. Is this excessive, normal, could there be a problem?

Puppies eat a lot, so they gotta go.
If you are feeding a food from Petco, Petsmart, Walmart or a grocery store, it is not good quality. In fact, it is all but poison to pets. Never feed Iams, Purina or Science Diet.
Don't believe me, read "Foods Pets Die For" by Ann N Martin.
Change to a quality food. Go to naturapet.com for more information on one of the best foods out today. The Innova and California Natural foods are the best.
Artemis, Wellness, Avoderm, and Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul are good ones too.

the food you feed a dog is very important. many people buy food from the grocery store or whatever...but it is not good. anything with corn is not easily digestable and mostly a waste.
i few good dog food are Wellness. this is all natural and people can eat it. every dog i have ever had loves it.
it is a bit pricey but not to bad compared to the food we eat and the amount we spend on us.
a less quality but still good and costly choice is science diet. this is not human grade but better for your pets than pedigri or something like....and a little more affordable.
there are many brands of dog food that are better for your dog. do some research...estimate the amount of money you are willing to spend and then change the food. i can almost garrantee that this is your problem but, puppies do poop alot regardless oif what they eat. also, one more piece of advice. talk to your vet about the breed and ask what they recommend as a good amount of food a day for the pooch.

A couple times a day is normal but it sounds like your dog is going a lot. Maybe try cutting the amount of food you are giving him and feed him his meals at the same time everyday (one in the AM and one in the PM).

It can also have to do with the type of food you are feeding. The cheap, low quality foods have a tendency to come out almost as quickly as they go in. It might cost more to feed a high quality food, but they do poo less and you actually feed them less of it. So in the long run, its really worth the money.

The better quality of dog food you have, the less waste will be disposed.

I highly recommend Bil Jac food.

If you notice on dry dog kibble, it's got a greasy-type feel to it...that's because the manufacturers need to spray the flavor and oil onto the kibble after the cook process in order to entice the dog to eat it.

When I started feeding Bil Jac, my dogs joint conditions improved, they pooped a LOT less, and their coats are a lot healthier!

Go check out Bil Jac's website to learn more...

And try the Bil Jac challenge!
I did...and boy, they ain't lying!

GROSS!! Most dogs of any age will eat cat poop! For some reason, they just love the taste of it...it;s not a bad habit. I have 3 cats and 2 dogs, and I had to end up putting the litter boxes down in the basement to keep the dogs out of them. Then, I had to cut a small round hole in the basement door so that the cats could get down there! The things we do for our animals! :-) Fortunately, this has worked out perfect, and my dogs no longer get their favorite "kitty snacks"! Put the litter box where the pup isn't able to nibble on cat poop!

I know what you mean i have a pitbull Rot Wiler mix and he poops 4/5 times a day. dont worry as he gets older expect him to learn to control his poo poo patern ( as i call it ) a little better but if it seems like a problem feel free to bring him to a good vet. my pitbull/rot wiler is only 5 weeks old and he likes warm milk mixed with his food and he cleans out pretty well. but hey try to remember that dogs that poo alot is just normal unless it gets outta control.

Normal. They generally go about 10-15 minutes after eating and often after playing and going for walks. If we were that healthy, we would too. The better quality food, the lower volume of feces. Less filler, more nutrition.

It may be the type of food you're feeding him. Generally, a higher quality food produces less poop.

I think it's probably normal, but you may want to check it out with your vet if this gets worse or your puppy seems to be acting sick or something. Good luck!
