Do other catholics find it embarrassing when this happens? Does this show that people could fall for anything if they are not being led by the bible?

First, I doubt it's 'millions.' Second, people can fall for anything whether they are led by the Bible or not. Third, yes, other Catholics do find it embarrassing.

Catholics are not supposed to do that. It goes against what the Catholic Church teaches.

If something like that happens and the Virgin Mary appears on something, they are supposed to go to the local Bishop so the Bishop will get some experts to see if its a hoax or not.

Catholics DO follow the Bible.

Just because Catholics don't follow YOUR interpretation doesn't mean they don't follow it. Besides you probably believe in the Protestant idea of "private interpratation" don't you?

This idea makes each Protestant his or her own denomination. Last I checked there were around 400 million Protestants, that means 400 million Protestant denominations (if they use "private interpretation").

As a Catholic I do find this odd and embarrassing.

Not too long ago, people came from miles around to see the image of Mary in a water stain on a bridge support. Of course they brought candles too. I kid you not. It even made the local news.

I guess that many of us are seeking a sort of spiritual or religious "fix" in whatever form it appears to us. We will continue to do this unless we learn better, and many of us never learn better. That leaves the field wide open for con artists of all descriptions to lead us around by the nose, whereupon they get rich and powerful and we become robots. If we have the temerity to question them we are accused of heresy or called "godless atheists". Gee, I haven't heard about the donut that looks like Mary. Where can I get the ticket to go see it? Are they printing T shirts yet?

False hope. Some of them figure that food with an image of a stick figure is a sign from God that something good will happen if they see it.

I think it's more than just a "Catholic thing"....this world has gone to hell, in a sense, and everyone's looking for a miracle so they'll know that everything is ok.
