If you are average weight you can't get drafted to a war because there is no draft. So your weight is not a factor.
If you were thinking of going on a Ho-Ho and Twinkies diet to avoid the nonexistent draft don't do it.

When the US HAD a draft, overweight was not a reason to keep a conscript out of the military. Other medical conditions, related to an overweight condiditon might have exempted someone.
Basic training had the tendancy to knock the chubiness out of someone. Some may not know this, but basic training does not have a specific length of time. Some slow learners had to endure the program more than once.

You have to be in a country that drafts people. Israel and italy have compulsory military service. However in the US there would have to be a drastic conflict on US soil for you to be drafted. Draftees on average tend to be inferior to regular military personell. If i was fighting in war id rather be fighting alongside regular army or marine infantry than draftees who don't want to be there and are just waiting to desert and run home.

If the draft is in effect, they'll take the fat guys too. Within 10 weeks they'll be whipped into fighting shape.

A) There has to be a draft in effect
B) You won't be fat for long. Trust me. I was down seventy pounds at one point in boot camp, and graduated fifty pounds less and around 6% body fat.

I wouldn't worry about it.. but yeah. Unless you have an actual health problem, you can be drafted and sent to boot camp to try to work it off.
