If he didn't like it, he should have done something. Just say sorry, and that you didn't know. How were you supposed to know? Everyone has different ideas of what's acceptable. So just tell him not to keep it inside, and if he wants to turn off the movie, he should take you aside and quietly ask you turn off the tv or change the channel.

Are you 12?
First of all, it is very rude to have company and keep the TV on. You are supposed to visit, unless they came over to watch TIVO or a special movie, WITH YOU!
If this was your company, too, then you should have been a hostess and turned off the TV, served food, and chatted.
If these guys were his company, you should have excused yourself and gone to your bedroom and watched TV or read a book or gone gambling with a girlfriend. Leave him the remote and go.
If your husband feels bad, they are HIS feelings. You can't fix that. You are responsible for YOUR feelings, and what you do about them.
If you feel bad, why do you feel bad? Is it your husband's anger you are afraid of or looking like a goober to his friends? Was this a porno movie that you watched with strangers? If not, it seems like you are making a big deal out of a small discourtesy.
It is too late to unbreak an egg, hon. It is old news. Tell your husband you feel bad because_____ and tell him that next time you plan to __________ (see above.)
You are not responsible for how your husband feels. Don't go there. If you have already tried to take on what he feels, give it back quick. You will be eternally apologizing for your husband's life not being like he wants it. That is his problem.

Why is he upset? Was it a movie that you and your husband made? If not, he shouldn't be angry. Next time be sure that either of you sees what's in the player before putting on a movie. If didn't like it at the beginning, he should have said something. That is why we have the ability to speak right?

An R-rated movie is considered acceptable to watch by most people in our society if you're an adult. If your husband thinks it's okay to watch R-rated movies in private, he should feel okay watching them with his friends. Otherwise he's a hypocrite. He's a jerk either way for blaming you.

So you married a child who keeps childish friends, no one felt they could say " Hey, you know, I read a good book the other day, did any of you ...."

No one left early?

Is he afraid of how his friends' opinions may have changed after THEY all sat with you 2 throughout the movie?

You're both adults - I assume, why on earth would he let this bother him. If it bothered him that much, he should say to his friends, sorry I didnt know it had so much inappropriate stuff in it.

You can't make him feel all right. You can support him, talk to him but feeling all right is up to him.

Why are you blaming yourself? If your husband did not want to watch the movie he could have just turned it off!
