I have Win XP & Paintshop Pro 8 software. My 'windows viewer ' doesn't seem to work. I can see a thumbnail image at the bottom of the email as an attachment.

If click on it or click 'view' it gives me a dialogue box with 'download attachment' or 'back to message' so i click to download.

Another dialogue box comes up with a Paint Shop Pro 8 icon & PSP as 'Type' as well. The reference on the photo says it comes from UK.f250mail.yahoo.com.

When I click to 'download' or 'open' it goes to my PSP software & tries to open the image but stops, comes up with a message 'the specified file cannot be identified as a supported type' & the only option is to click 'OK'.

It goes back to the 'virus scan results' dialogue box where you either 'download' or 'go back to message'. So I give up & go back to message - where i started from! The size of the image is 59kb -anybody with any suggestions PLEEEASE????

go to IRFANVIEW.COM and download their free software. once you've done that and set it up, go through your process again to get that photo, and just choose irfanview. should work fine. I've had trouble with PSP also, but irfanview works for me everytime. I use it to store several thousands of photos on my computer with XP and its simple to use and understand. I have friends who are professional photographers and college art professors who also depend on that little free download. It's great. give it a try.

Go to your documents folder. It doesnt have to be that, just any folder. Click at the top of the menu bar where it says "Tools" and scroll down to "Folder Options". A window will open up, click on the tab that says "File Types", scroll down to where it says "jpe", "jpeg" & "jpg". Under where it says Details for 'JPG' extension, it should say Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. If it doesnt say that for one or more those three file extensions, click on where it says change, and change it to Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. By doing that, you are making it so that the default program for viewing images on your computer is Windows Picture and Fax Viewer (WinXP Default)

Are you exepcting the image?
It could be a virus.

If its from someone you know save it to disk and try and rename the file as {name}.jpg.

I have had a similar problem before - i also use PSP8.

I would suggest that if its from an unknown source you might be better not opening the file - IM me if you want help - my contact details are online

Sounds like the file is corrupted. Do you have this problem with other attachments that are the same type (JPG)? If so, do they open up properly? That's one way to test whether or not the file is corrupted.

just download it and save it to your desktop
it doesnt matter what program associates itself with the file
once it is downloaded right click on it and choose open with
then you will get a list of programs to choose from
just pick the one you want
good luck
